What oil do i have to put on my cooling fan to make it silent?

It really depends on the cooling fan.

What kind of fan is it?

Is it sealed, or can you get to the bearings or bushings?

What is it cooling and how hot is on the intake (cool air) side?

Don't use WD-40 or an equivalent.

1) It will tend to accelerate wear on bushings.

2) it will often degrade/dissolve plastic or rubber seals.

3) it's too thin to actually stay in the bushing, leaking out and getting thrown off or out of the place you need to lubricate.

For most smallish fans (CPU fans up to household box fans) I tend to use either a couple of drops of cooking oil, or a drop or two of motor oil left in the bottle after I change my car oil.
