Citroen dispatch 2.0 hdi '51 reg. noticed oil leaking from the expansion tank cap. Removed cap to find thick black oil instead of water but no foaming/emulsifying. Sump was really low on oil but hadn't checked for couple months. No loss of power or smoke from exhaust noticed and temperature remain normal. Suspected head gasket but hoping oil cooler failed!! May have just happened and usual symptoms may not had chance to become apparent.Head gasket or Oil cooler? oil in expansion tank, no loss of power?
The oil cooler shouldn't be involved in the coolant system; its isolated. Sounds more like a head gasket to me.
