Dose a water cooled turbo have to have oil lines or just water supply?

im tryin to put a turbo on a stock 92 2.3 mustang just a lilttle one no more than 6-8 psi im jus confused on the oil lines how to run them i got the trubo off a t-birb turbo coupeDose a water cooled turbo have to have oil lines or just water supply?
85 and up T-bird turbos have both oil and water cooling...Dose a water cooled turbo have to have oil lines or just water supply?
Depends on the turbo a bit. 85-6 Tbirds had Garret turbos. 87-8 had Ishi-Warner turbos.

The older Garretts came without water cooling. The water cooling was added later in production to make the bearings last longer. Oiling is an absolute necessity, water is optional. I have heard from turbo rebuilders that the water cooling on those particular turbos isn't designed very well anyway and isn't as effective as it ought to be. If it were me and the water lines were available, I'd plumb them in. In the 1980's many Volvos had ';oil only'; Garrett turbos almost identical to those in Tbirds. Turbos that had to be replaced under Volvo warranty were water cooled and came with a mandatory plumbing kit so water lines could be added. The Volvo people seemd to think the water cooling was worth having.

The Ishi turbos are a bit more delicate. If yours has water lines, I'd certainly hook them up.
You have to have the oil lines connected or the turbo bearing(s) will melt themselves to the housing.

My grandma advises to put heated oil in ears after cooling it.Is it advisable to do so?

see the category punk....

and then ask questions...My grandma advises to put heated oil in ears after cooling it.Is it advisable to do so?
our grandparents used to put warm olive oil in our ears to sooth the presure from a head cold. I am not sure this is bad for you but I can tell you the doctors were using warm water and peroxide mix to clean out the ears of junk built up. much of the ear drops doctors perscribe is an oil based product so I would venture its not an issue as long as its warm not hot. by the way some countrys used warm urine as a treatment for ear aches, true !My grandma advises to put heated oil in ears after cooling it.Is it advisable to do so?
Yes, Its fine. The method is as follows. Heat the mustard oil with two or three pieces of garlic in it boil them when they are golden brown in color put the fire off. Cool the mustard oil. When it is luke warm or you can pour it on your outer hand skin, pour two to four drops in one ear and keep lying in that position for about 5 to 10 mins. and repeat it with the other ear. After that if you like to use the ear bud you can (ofcourse with caution) or just clean it with soft cotton cloth. It's good for ears.
When you do a first aid course they will tell you never to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear. Which means, you don't go putting anything in your ear as it may damage your hearing.

Justbecause Grandma said so, doesn't mean she is right.
for a ear ache yes you can use sweet oil which you can get at store really its just a seal kind of to keep air out which anything wil do it and yes being a old man ive used it a many times on my kids listen to grandma she old and wise
it is advisable by ancestors bt our doc's say dat we shud nevr try to clean our ear with nethn even with ear buds...it eventually damages the ear drum

they say the wax keeps the ear clean from all the other pollutants...so dnt clean it off.....mreovr wax always goes when u take bath without u knwn it...
yeah it's true. After pouring it to ear make sure you keep oil for 2-4 hrs all the wax in you ear easily comes out. use ear bid to get wax removed. Also if you have problem with ear, it ll be overcome.
Wrong question in wrong category. Just go and revise.
but consult a doctor...its differ from person to person
I'm trying to figure out what this has to do with car repair? my car has oil, but not ears.

  • My 2003 dodge neon srt4 has oil leaking out the bottom of the inter cooler hose where is it coming from?

2.4 litre turbo charged, oil is collecting at bottom of driver side intercooler hose leak is very slow no drips and no oil on ground when parked for extended period of timeMy 2003 dodge neon srt4 has oil leaking out the bottom of the inter cooler hose where is it coming from?
check out www.srtforums.com I think on there they talked something about the oil in there from the crankcase ventalation that goes into the intake. You probably should invest in a oil catch can. go to www.modernperformance.com for one of those. My 2003 dodge neon srt4 has oil leaking out the bottom of the inter cooler hose where is it coming from?
its probably coming from your turbo. check the seals and the oil return lines.
oil?? intercoolers don't have oil in them, they cool the air after the turbo. i think you're talking about the oil cooler for the engine, my intrepid had silver clamps holding the hoses on and they are ****. cut the hose then cut the pipe and just put the hose over the pipe with a hose clamp. if its still under warranty, take it to the dealer, its probably covered.
clean the oil off of the outside of the hose then disconnect the inter cooler hose if there is more oil inside the hose then the seals on your turbo are leaking if no oil is inside the hose oil is leaking some where else and dripping on the hose follow oil trail up wards to find the source probabaly is turbo.
the turbo might have a bad seal or a valve seal/seats might be leaking and oil is coming through or piston rings

If oil barons are going to be so involved in our future, shouldn't they be cooler people, like Jed Clampett?

Jed Clampett would make a noble and just ruler. I would vote for him as long as he didn't let Granny at them nukes! If oil barons are going to be so involved in our future, shouldn't they be cooler people, like Jed Clampett?
If it's up to Maxine Waters then she will be part of the oil baron clan in some form or another and....she's not cool.

I think the government should be cool to the oil barons and let them hire about a million people and covertly let them start drilling in Alaska. We should have our own oil by next year.

That would be cool.If oil barons are going to be so involved in our future, shouldn't they be cooler people, like Jed Clampett?
He had it all money and not ruled by it, talk about a slow hand and he grows his own, which unfortunately the country is no longer doing.. That is funny though and gets a 5 star rating.
I'll assume you ask this question because you don't think Maxine Waters is qualified to pump our gas...

    Agreed.

API grade gasoline lub oil optimum performance at what ENGINE COOLING WATER temperature ranges?

what?API grade gasoline lub oil optimum performance at what ENGINE COOLING WATER temperature ranges?
Could you phrase this in a form of a question please?

Would a computer run cooler and/or faster immersed in mineral oil?

OIL IS NON CONDUCTIVE.Would a computer run cooler and/or faster immersed in mineral oil?
Why yes it would, but be sure and dye the oil red first.Would a computer run cooler and/or faster immersed in mineral oil?
It might if you had a pump circulating the mineral oil through a radiator or something. I'm not sure how good the heat transfer properties of mineral oil are. Also , if you immerse the entire computer in mineral oil, fans, disk drive, etc, would get gummed up really bad. You can get water cooling systems for computers. You have special heat sinks for processor, video card, and other hot-running items with tubes attached to to them that you circulate water through, with an external radiator and fan somewhere. Overkill for all but the most hardcore overclockers, and if you get a leak anywhere, you're going to lose some hardware.
definately not. the oil is going to slow any moving parts down. this means CD's, harddrives, and fans.

even is something is immersed in oil, it will still produce heat, and with no way to get the heat out of there, it might overheat. not good.

as for the harddrive, there is a little arm that moves back and forth real fast. immersing something like this in oil will slow this down CONSIDERIBLY and it will render it near USELESS! same goes for the CD drive.

    don't do it
    I doubt it.

Your best bet is to just put some oversized fans and heatsinks on the necessary components.

They actually make liquid cooling systems that consist of an external pump - and you put these little pads on your processor, memory, mobo chipset, even the hard drive. They are a little expensive, but are supposed to be very very nice. Alienware.com has an option to include it with your system purchase.

Can i use vegetable oil as a coolant for my homemade water cooling system?

i made my homemade watercooling system but the probs is what liquid should i use as a coolant..i dont have money to buy a xpensive coolant..so i made a reserch..they say's can be a water or a vegetable oil..what do you think? Can i use vegetable oil as a coolant for my homemade water cooling system?
I would use distilled water. It is not a matter of cooling capacity in my mind. I don't know if oil or water carries heat better. If there is a leak distilled water does not carry electricity so nothing will short out. There would also be nothing to clean up. Try cleaning up oil after a leak. You can get cheap distilled water in a supermarket for steam irons. Can i use vegetable oil as a coolant for my homemade water cooling system?

Freon cooling system for hydraulic oil in machine system?

Is there a freon cooling system which can cool the hydraulic oil more effective than fan cooling system or water cooling system.

    My concept is as foolows,

    (1) Use a compressor and fron (similar to the air conditionor)

    (2) Let hydraulic oil and freon go into one container, which has separate pipes inside for oil and freon separately. This will prevent oil and freon from mixing together.

I think this will be more efficient than water and air and will not take too much space. If there is some equipment like what I need, it will help a lot, because our machine are used in Saudi Arabia and the temparature there is very high. Hence the air and water cooling system is not enough.

Any information will help a lot. Thanks!!

EricFreon cooling system for hydraulic oil in machine system?
No one can answer this question! Because it's way out of proportion!Freon cooling system for hydraulic oil in machine system?
no . even an ac has to remove heat from its self to get cool. as hydro oil will always operate over ambiant air temp add size and water mist on oil cooler, rather than ac which would suffer same problems of heat exchange ,plus expence and complex .think in the box on this one Report Abuse

What I wanna know is a checklist of the materials needed to build

a good quality gaming computer cooled with oil (that wont make me pay outrageous amounts of moneyI need a checklist for a gaming pc cooled with oil is it possible to do on a lowend budget?
Ummm, I don't think anyone uses ';oil'; to cool their PC's. They use a liquid similar to automotive anti-freeze. Oil is used in cars to lubricate parts that move very fast and produce lots of friction (and heat). In fact, only high-performance vehicles have oil-coolers (mostly turbocharged cars/trucks as turbos use oil to lube their bearings and spin at 100,000rpm+...they also use water cooling).

Liquid cooling is not used on budget gaming PC's, high-end air coolers / heatsinks are, like this:

A computer cooled by oil is not something that really should be attempted by anyone who is not willing to risk destroying everything they put in the machine. Not to mention the possibility of destroying the carpet and anything else in the vicinity if one of the seals on the case should start to leak.

Seeing as how you want to do this on a low-end budget, I doubt you could stand to lose any of the components you are planning on putting in the box.

I have a 1997 Ski Doo MXZ 440 liquid cooled and gas is getting in the oil tank. How and why?

I have a 1997 Ski Doo MXZ 440 liquid cooled and gas is getting in the oil tank. I have put about 1500-2000 miles on the sled and have not had to add oil to it (tank is always full). Oil is light bluish green. My brother figured gas is getting in the oil tank because of the smell of the oil. What could be causing this problem?I have a 1997 Ski Doo MXZ 440 liquid cooled and gas is getting in the oil tank. How and why?
    Cracked ring/bad valve

Why would a pan of oil start ';boiling'; AFTER only the bottom was cooled?

I was trying to sautee some stuff in oil, when I noticed the oil the food was starting to brown more than I wanted, I ran water in my sink, and put the bottom of the pan in the little water that didn't go down the drain. The oil, which was not boiling previously, started to boil, and I could see minuscule air bubbles rising from the pan.

Thanks. Why would a pan of oil start ';boiling'; AFTER only the bottom was cooled?
You probably got water in the pan with the oil. the boiling of the Oil was actually the water violently boiling away.

FYI this is a dangerous situation and the cause of many kitchen burns. The boiling water can cause oil to splatter on your skin and cause a bad burn.

If you have a pan of oil that is too hot, remove it form the heat. I have also found that adding some fresh oil from the bottle at room temperature will help cool down the whole mess very quickly. Why would a pan of oil start ';boiling'; AFTER only the bottom was cooled?
    You are right

When the bottom of the pan cooled suddenly due to the water in the sink, it created a very sharp temperature gradient (high change of temperature from one layer to the next layer of oil)

As you know boiling is a ';convection'; in which a liquid goes into a swirly circulation due to differing temperatures of various layers causing differing densities.

But in convection warmer layers from the bottom move up due to reduced density - but we seem to have the opposite situation here

Perhaps the oil at the edge of the surface got cooled and started sinking and displacing the rest of the hot oil...?

Or perhaps...its like the other answers: you might have got some moisture into the oil
oil doesnt boil, at least not at temps you can provid in your kitchen, you need to get it up in the 1,000 degree mark. for it to boil it must be evaporating, which we all know doesnt happen with oil, thats why its used in lotions, because it doesnt evap and locks in other liquids like water.

you probably got some water (maybe even a mist) in the pan. the oil was hot enough to heat the water to a boil.

the turbocharger needs an oil supply for lubrication purposes. the water is strictly for cooling only.

Is there really a difference in oil for air cooled and water cooled engines?

Yes,air cooled engines fluctuates in temperature, that depends on the outside air temp. Water cooled engines are subjected to coolant temp values, let say 175 - 200degrees Fahrenheit. Selection of oil viscousity depends on engine performance ie..high compression engine, and weather temperatures. Is there really a difference in oil for air cooled and water cooled engines?
Air cooled engines tend to run hotter than water cooled engines, so a higher viscosity oil is used. My airplane uses 50 weight.

one of my cooling fan is about 3 years old. now theres some noise from the fan. i blew all the dust with a can of compressed air dusters. i can still hear the noise. i wanna add some oil, but i dont know where to add. i cant take out the blade and see the motor. How to add oil to a cooling fan?
    3 years old?!

    dude, replace the fan already.

How to add oil to a cooling fan?
Cooling fans are cheap to replace but if you do want to service your existing on you need to remove the label from the top, put a drop of oil in and then replace the label.
i think buying a new fan would solve all your problems. those things aren't built to last too long. they're pretty cheap too.
You don't add oil, you replace the fan. They're only about $5.

I have a honda beat 50cc 2 stroke oil injected, water cooled scooeter, it will start and run fine but no power

what do u think this could be? thanks for your helpI have a honda beat 50cc 2 stroke oil injected, water cooled scooeter, it will start and run fine but no power
Okay, what do you mean no power.

Are you starting it in the morning, afternoon, what?

And does it idle in a satisfactory manner?

Have you recently had the CVT belt replaced?

The spark plugs, you have checked them, and they are clean and you remember when they were last replaced? If not go do that and come back. We'll wait.

    You are back.

And you have checked the various filters and such? The tank usually has a filter with the petcock that may be clogged, if it had bad gas in the tank or it ran for a while on reserve. Has yours been running on reserve lately?

Is the choke opening and closeing correctly, that is when you pull the knob out does it close off the air supply, or not? when you push it in, does it leave the air intake open? Your air filter, has it ever been changed. It sounds like a breathing problem, either on intake or on exhaust. Is you exhaust pipe plugged partially or wholly?

When was the last time you had the carbon blown out of the 2 stroke, (did you every take it out and wind the h*ll out of it?) (Almost said a bad word there! Wow!

I am not all that familiar with the nuances of 2 stroke behavior, but I think it may be obstructed in some way, on the exhaust side, or possibly on the intake. If the choke is on and does not go off, that would make it feel like no power. (Think of how well you would work if a big wad of waste paper were caught in your throat.)I have a honda beat 50cc 2 stroke oil injected, water cooled scooeter, it will start and run fine but no power
Possibly no compression. A top overhaul (rings, hone) might help.
Am not familiar with your particular scooter, but sounds like if engine is running fine, your clutch is slipping, therefore losing power.
Can you get more specific? It runs, but the transmission won't engage or the engine isn't powerful enough?
Check the air cleaner - scooters don't like to run with dirty air cleaners.

Clogged exhaust pipe - common with 2 stroke scooters.

Clutch slipping (scooter clutches do ware out).

Worn out top end (cylinder, piston %26amp; rings).

2 stroke engines require rebuilds quite often.

Not all manufacturers require oil on their re-usable filters. And if they do, only use the specific oil specified by the manufacturer. Never motor oil. Go on the manufacturer's website and they should have instructions on how to properly clean and maintain your air filter.

Will filling my car's cooling system with used motor oil really remove the cooling system's accumulated rust?

What will make the oil from the engine go into cooling system on a Isuzu Rodeo 97 with 3.2 v6 engine?

So far the engine is not overheating and still strong like before and the oil in the engine still clean, no water in it. Is there anything I am missing? Let me know. Thanks. What will make the oil from the engine go into cooling system on a Isuzu Rodeo 97 with 3.2 v6 engine?
Bad head or head gasket. What will make the oil from the engine go into cooling system on a Isuzu Rodeo 97 with 3.2 v6 engine?
it has to be a blown head gasket
Are you sure it's engine oil or trans fluid? Trans fluid can get into the coolant from a leaking trans cooler in the radiator and vice versa coolant into trans fluid. Not very common but not unheard of. Pressure test the cooling system and check the trans cooler in the radiator for internal leaks by removing the cooler lines from the radiator and see if any coolant comes out of the fittings for them on the radiator when you pressure test it. If the trans cooler is leaking, you'll have to flush the trans and cooling system as well as replace the radiator.
    Could be the intake gaskets.

If it has an oil cooler in the radiator that could also be leaking
You may have a slightly warped head, causing the head gasket to leak. Rent a torque wrench (if you don't already have one) Get a copy of the head bolt torque sequence from the Isuzu dealer. Make sure the engine is nice and warm. Remove the valve cover. Following the bolt sequence, loosen and re-tighten each cylinder head bolt one at a time. Do the same thing with the intake manifold bolts. These also have an installation sequence. This will usually straighten out the head and re-seal the gasket. If you have been using the ';green'; stuff for coolant, flush and clean out the entire cooling system and use Audi or Mercedes coolant. The ';green'; stuff will eventually eat holes through aluminum heads like Swiss cheese. These other coolants have special formulas that prevent this problem. Also, remove and clean your oil pressure relief valve, if it is easily accessible. (ask where it is at the dealer) If it sticks open, too much oil pressure can cause oil to ooze from the oil passageway in the head gasket into the water passageway. Begin this whole process with a nice engine bay steam cleaning. Good Luck!!
A blown head gasket or cracked head might do that. Also if you have an automatic transmission you might get ATF into the coolant via the radiator.

Will there be Climate Cooling when the oil runs out ?

At the present rate of pumping out the oil, surely someday it will run dry. What happens then, maybe the oil corps. know something that we don't and are making the most out of it now. Will there be Climate Cooling when the oil runs out ?
Oil will not last for ever.US is keeping its oil reserves un touched.Future fuel is hydrogen or liquid hydrogen. The source for hydrogen is un ending sea.Exhaust hydrogen will be converted back to water. No pollution.Hydrogen based engines have been developed and commercial production is yet to start.Hydrogen engines will smash the back bones of middle east countries .

But the cooling of climate even after oil run out is not possible.Entropy goes on on incresing and according Prof.Barton,';The world will die a heat death';.We can prolong the period that is all. Will there be Climate Cooling when the oil runs out ?
natural processes that will bury back all the fossil fuels in the ground will take several hundred million years. but an artificial process or several processes that capture CO2 from the atmosphere and store it permanently are theoretically possible, and if such processes were perfected and employed, than in a century or so it would be possible to return the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere and water to the pre industrial levels of 400 years ago.
No, the damage is done. All we can do is try to slow it down. And I had not thought about running out of oil until I read your question, but I think that would be the coolest. That's what needs to happen; we need to run out of oil. That would be so much fun watching the white sheets and checkered table cloth head rags run thru' the sand looking for more. And there is no more. Poor Arabs, they lost their bargaining chip.
No, the total amount of carbon on the planet stays the same, so once it's pulled out of the ground in oil, then burned and released into the air as CO2 it will stay there for a long time until natural processes gradually work it back into plants and algae, those settle into soil and ocean sediment, and so on.

There's a long ';half life'; for CO2 remaining in the air, so there may be effects for hundreds of years after we reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
    Gwens18a is 100% right.

Natural CO2 levels haven't exceeded 300 ppm for hundreds of thousands of years. We're getting close to 400 and going up fast. Scientists are trying to keep it below 500. If we get it below 400 they'll break out the champaign.
The atmospheric CO2 residence time is hundreds of years, the damage that we have already done through our emissions will be with us for centuries. The only thing we can do now by reducing CO2 that we put into the atmosphere is damage control.
When coal also eventually runs out, then we might have something here. Much of the CO2 emissions come from coal burning at power plants.
no. a large percentage of the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere are produced by the burning of forest fires. (especially in south america)
Yea, Bob and Gwen and the others are correct. I'd just like to add that we'll never run out of oil completely. What is most likely to happen is oil will become so expensive that all these other alternative fuels that are expensive today will become cheap in comparison to oil in the future. We may actually reach that tipping point within the next 3-5 years. Unfortunately, the tipping point of coal, which is much dirtier than oil, is farther off!
';OIL'; will be available, for many years, and the 'coal supply' will last for 400 to 600 years. While the co2 emissions are a 'safety / health' topic, a SINGLE Mid sized VOLCANIC eruption ,aka 'event' to those in the scientific / geology fields, WILL cause a 'drastic cooling effect', world wide, in a matter of a FEW months, and will last for YEARS.

These events have occurred ';THOUSANDS OF TIMES';, over the past Four and one Half BILLION (4.5 Billion)years.

There are millions of people who 'worry' about the global warming subject, but never study even the basics of GEOLOGY to learn the FACTS !!!

ALSO, The SUNS radiations and 'SUN SPOTS' have more effect on the earth in one week, than man has had, in the past 15,000 years.
no there will not be any cooling because the damage being done to the ozone layer is permanent. In fact, one C02 molecule continually breaks down ozone molecules forever, they never go away. The oil companies know that the oil wil run out and are obviously trying to make as much money as possible while its still here, and in turn, as the oil runs out it will become more and more valuable. But another big problem is is that the oil must be there for a reason, it must serve a purpose and that purpose could very well be to help the sliding of tectonic plates, so draining the earth of all the oil will probably cause more earthquakes and tsunamis along with the climate change )-:
global cooling has already started, but it takes a while for the government to catch up with whats really going on
The climate will not start cooling. Since oil is made from dead plants and animals it won't run out.

The gas prices are going up right now because of 4 things. Starting from the top, Barrel prices, refineries, taxes, tariffs are the 4 things that control the prices. If we start drilling more the barrel prices will go down. The more refineries we build means more gas to the pumps intern will lower prices. I believe a 1/3 of the price of gas is a tax. Last but least the tariffs need to be lowered on imported oil.

amnesty, you mean CFC's right. In the 80's it was CFC's that destroyed parts of the ozone layer. Look it up and edit yourself. BTW the destroying part was BS anyways.

How to remove oil from a radiator and cooling system?

I have a machine with a Perkins diesel engine. The oil cooler which operates in conjunction with the cooling water has ruptured resulting in a quantity of oil contaminating the radiator and right through the cooling system. Has anybody got any ideas as to what i could put through the cooling system to clear all of the oil from itHow to remove oil from a radiator and cooling system?
There's stuff made just for this eventuality. It's called radiator or cooling system flush. Basically it's detergent without a foaming agent. You could flush it out with washing-up liquid but you'd be rinsing it for weeks to get rid of the bubbles. How to remove oil from a radiator and cooling system?
best flush ever is B W-17 made by DAE ...dae. west lodge.. elwick rd.. hartlepool ts26obq tel01429865012 i have used it for years and its 100% efficient i have a range rover with a perkins 6354 in i flush a lot of petrol freelander systems out which have a lot of gasket trouble with oil contamination in coolant full instructions on container
drain what you can, fill with water again and a bit of washing up liquid then run engine till temp up,loosen your rad cap then take your bottom hose of let it drain.you might have to do it a couple of times.
Clear all liquid from the system. Refill with 50/50 Greased Lighting.

Warm system up %26amp; flush with water.

Remember, Greased Lightning has an acid in it. Don't run too long.

I flush radiators with blown head gaskets this way.

    Hope this helps.
best bet is to remove 1 rad pipe and the thermostate and blast oiut with a high power jet wash.....but it may take some swilling out,.
Wynne's Radiator flush.......its like ex lax for cooling systems!

It will get rid of most of the sludge, scale etc that's probably built up too.

When should be the first oil change in a air cooled standby generator?

I understand that they cycle on and off for 20 minutes once a week. When should be the first oil change in a air cooled standby generator?
!st. Follow manufactures advice. The type of cycle you stated is called severe service.

2.Use good oil and change at least 2x per year. Check into synthetic or add a tiny bit of slick 50 to the engine or buy there small engine slick. It will help the wear situation for the 20 min cycle.

3.Also, use stabil for the gas to prevent rust and gumming.

4.Check oil before starting or at least once a week before it starts.

    5. Make sure it is vented to the outside. People die of carbon monoxide poisoning all the time. When should be the first oil change in a air cooled standby generator?
Usually these things need the first oil change after 5 hrs of use, but check the manual to make sure.

It does what it's supposed to.How do you get burnt oil off motorcycle cooling fins?
simple green, let it soak about 15 mins, then hose it off using a soft brush?
gunk spray degreaser, get the engine warm, spray it. then hose it off.
I used engine-brite cleaner today, and just followed the directions. Sprayed on, let it sit for 15 minutes then washed off with H2O. Then I used a flat butter knife wrapped in a thin rag to wipe excess gunk off between the fins. Worked great, and no adverse effects. I think simple Green would also definitely work. Engine-brite might be a more aggressive cleaner.

Can overheating cooling system burn oil a lot?

I never had burned oil, but my 99 CIVIC with 95K is due for service, and also my car car temperature gauge is moving back and forth once in a while almost reaching the H indicator. So the mechanic is going to check that for me. Today I checked my oil, and it was down about 60%, never had that problem, so I was thinking is this b/c of the cooling system. Thanks a Lot. Iam in Newark, NJ so these past days, its been 94F.Can overheating cooling system burn oil a lot?
A car will consume oil due to high heat. However, 60% or so is a lot of oil. It's quite possible that you have a ';blown'; head gasket. If damaged, the head gasket can easily allow oil and water to enter the cylinders when the engine is running. It can also allow oil and water to mix too.A few clues that might indicate a damaged head gasket are 1/ a light colored oil on the underside of your oil cap, 2/ engine runs MUCH better when you add water, 3/ engine consumes a lot of water daily.I hope this helps you. BestCan overheating cooling system burn oil a lot?
wow honestly..... ive had a problem like that once before and it DOES sound like a head gasket problem unfourtunatly but foutunatly for you you drive a civic it should be fairly cheap to fix.....

but first and foremost check your thermostat, they sometimes go bad, and secondly yes definatly get a coolant flush maybe its something simple like you have a leaky raiator..... and since you do live in newark i know of a place in town to service your radiator for fifty bucks...... but first you have to be 90 pecent positive that its the radiator cause thats all the guy handles
try a new temperature sender unit
the oil levels usually gets low when your car has worned out piston rings or dry valve retainers not because overheating what u need to do is to take it to a shop and get your cylinder pressure tested
    YES.

I have a 1995 Saturn and there is oil leaking into my cooling system? What could be causing this?

It has been suggested that a head gasket is going bad, but the car only has 90,000 miles and is not over heating. My dad describes this problem of having oil in the water but no water in the oil.I have a 1995 Saturn and there is oil leaking into my cooling system? What could be causing this?
It depends on the oil-- the transmission cooler is in the radiator and may be leaking- usually you can see the red color- unless the transmission oil is burnt--then its brown. Engine oil is generally black. If it is engine oil it is probably a head gasket.I have a 1995 Saturn and there is oil leaking into my cooling system? What could be causing this?
Yes, change the head gasket. Newer GM cars have a cast iron engine block and aluminum heads, which expand differently when heated and cooled. There may be a portion of the head gasket's mating surfaces, that allows the oil to leak from the lubrication system, into the cooling system. Taking off the radiator cap, only to find a brown foamy deposit on the inside of the cap, is the clue to this problem.
it's oil in the water. look at your oil cooling lines too the rad thy have replacement ones for 30 to 60 dollars that goes on the front of the rad
You need to check if it is transmission oil or engine oil, if its transmission oil the oil cooler might be leaking(if its an automatic transmission with a cooler in the radiator).
Your dad is right. You have a bad head gasket. Big bucks to fix.
Engine oil is cooled in the radiator, just like the cooling water. The reason oil would be turning up is because it is run tubing through at a higher pressure to prevent water from getting into the oil, which would ruin the engine. The leak is probably there, as if it were the head gasket water would also get into the oil.
without being able to see it, if it has an automatic trans., it could be the trans. cooler/radiator. it can be leaking from the trans cooler which is connected to the radiator(drivers side?).it is possible for there to be a internal leak.

it is also poss. that it is the head gasket, in either case you need to take it to a shop that you trust.
Likely the head gasket. There is a pressurized oil passage that transfers oil to the camshaft(s) in the head. There is a hole in the head gasket where the oil is pumped through and it could be leaking across the deck of the block into a coolant passage.

Also check the rad if it is an automatic. There is a transmission fluid cooler that runs through one tank of the rad and if it has a small hole in it, it could be pumping trans. oil into the rad.

Oh and P.S. - Saturn uses aluminum block and cylinder heads. Don't go and change the head gasket without getting it properly diagnosed. It is worth the money.
is your car an automatic transmission? if so it is possible that the transmission oil cooler in the radiator is leaking into the radiator. causing oil to seap into the coolant. both fluids are under pressure during normal driving transmission oil is at least40 to 60 psi and engine coolant is only around 15 to 17 psithere fore the oil will push in to the coolant .
head gasket take a plug out and turn the motor over water may shoot out the hole if its bad enough been there done that got shot in the eye doing this lol wasnt fun. but was funny after..

Can you put essential oils in an evaporative cooler?

If so, how much do you use, and do you just put it in the basin, or what? And does anyone have any scents that they LOVE?Can you put essential oils in an evaporative cooler?
Well I guess I wouldn't do that unless the ';oil'; is 100% soluble in water. Otherwise it will coat the evaporative surfaces and interfere with the cooling cycle. If it's soluble and you use a lot of it, you may change the water's vapor pressure which will lower the cooling efficiency.

I was told burning vegetable oil letting it cool then pouring it on my dogs. Will remove ticks would that work is that true? And another thing is garlic is that good or bad? for the dog. Will it remove ticks if i burn vegetable oil let it cool then poor it on my dog?
I purchased a tick remover from my local dog grooming store when my dog picked up a tick. All you do is put it around the tick, twist it and pull the tick off. easy peasy. They only cost a few dollars and they are a handy tool to have about the house for when your dog picks up a tick in the future.

How many ticks do your dogs have? If they have a large number it might be worth a vet trip to make sure they are ok. In Australia we have a paralysis tick that can easily kill a dog if left on for too long.

Garlic isnt bad for dogs- it is thought to help control fleas- but it doesnt mean that you shouldnt use proper flea treatments! Will it remove ticks if i burn vegetable oil let it cool then poor it on my dog?
WTF??? No, that won't work, and you'll likely burn the dog while you're at it unless you let the oil cool to room temperature (at which point what was the purpose of heating the oil??).

What would be a cool demonstration on oil spills?

I'm doing a project on bioremediation, and I have to present at an expo in front of a large group of people. I wanted to start off with a visual demonstration of what oil spills can do and use that to work my way into speaking about ways to prevent them. Oh, and I want to sound very...Billy Mays enthusiastic, like a car salesman you just can't say no to. lol I only have 5 minutes to speak, so it must be brief. What would be a cool demonstration on oil spills?
I can't stand that blow-hard Billy Mays. I wouldn't purchase anything his name is associated with. To me, it's a sure-fire way to keep me from buying it. You see.....Billy Mays' name is synonymous with junk.

Hard to know exactly what you're getting at......you're a little vague so it's hard to know what kind of demo you're talking about....real...simulated.

See....to me, it's obvious. It's oil on water. Oils floats and spreads like ink on a shirt pocket, so what's the big deal.....yanno?

I usually avoid these kinds of 'demos' because like you said, you only have 5 minutes. What good can be done with something like this in 5 minutes? So it's usually just fluff and smoke and mirrors.

At least you are trying to get help, which is good, but as I said.....talks set up like this are inane and just fluff.

Unless you can pour red paint onto a blue covering to show how it spreads, and then try and simulate micro-organisms eating away at the oil I just don't have any ideas for you. Not trying to damage your confidence, or offer destructive criticism, but just giving you a mind-set from an educated person's scientific point of view.

Good luck with it.What would be a cool demonstration on oil spills?
Here is a demonstration: get some oil. Diesel oil, for example, will do. Mix it with water. You'll have to leave it for a few week, though. After a while you'll notice a whitish substance between the oil and the water. Those are bacterias that live in the water, feeding on the oil.

Oil is hydrocarbon, a natural product. It occurs in the nature and nature can take care of it.

In 1989, the Exxon Valdez accident prompted the US government to pass the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA90) and that's a good thing. Today, no tank ship can enter the US waters without a double hull to contain any spill in case of grounding.

But in 1989, the cleaning of the Alaskan shore did more damage to the fragile polar nature than if it was left alone. Bacterias would have absorbed it very fast. Sure, photos of sea birds covered with oil were difficult to accept. But an oil spill is nothing compared to the other chemicals ships are carrying worldwide.

What are the causes of oil entering your cooling system? What repairs can be done to fix this problem.?

Looks like antifreeze hasn't been changed in a long time and liquid is of brown muddy color. temperture indicator reads normal. no over-heating yet. Was told can not flush out cooling system until cause of oil leak is found. How costly would these repairs be?What are the causes of oil entering your cooling system? What repairs can be done to fix this problem.?
Just because it is brown doesn't mean that it's oil in the coolant. Coolant will usually turn brown due to rust deposits if it hasn't been changed in a very long time.

Have an experienced mechanic perform these two tests: first, apply a coolant system pressure gauge on the radiator or expansion tank opening. Have the engine run and see if pressure builds and fluctuates. If it does then combustion pressure is entering the cooling system indicating a bad gasket or cracked or warped head.

Second, have the mechanic probe the radiator or expansion tank opening with an exhaust probe. A higher than normal hydrocarbon reading indicates oil in the coolant.

You can usually see streaks floating across the water if there is oil in the system. You can always flush the coolant, it won't hurt anything. It's just that it won't solve a bad gasket, cracked or warped head or cracked block. What are the causes of oil entering your cooling system? What repairs can be done to fix this problem.?
is your anti-freeze orange or green if its orange then drain it flush the system and add new antifreeze you probably have a chevy car that's normal condition cause of the orange anti-freeze.but now say it was oil and it was brow-redish color then check you trany oil is it pink or red automatic transsmission cool the oil usin the radiator coolant like a heat exchange if that's crack then you'll see oil in coolant an coolant in trany oil. hope this helps you
Oil in the coolant would be floating on top and have a very distinct petroleum smell to it.

If the coolant is just a muddy brown color, it's probably just rust. Get it flushed and put in new coolant.
the place on the radiator where the transmission lines are hooked up to probably has a hole in it and you are mixing transmission fluid and anti-freeze together.
Probably a bad head gasket is causing the oil to mix with coolant.
IT COULD BHE A BAD HEAD GASKET OR A CRACKED BLOCK.
