Can overheating cooling system burn oil a lot?

I never had burned oil, but my 99 CIVIC with 95K is due for service, and also my car car temperature gauge is moving back and forth once in a while almost reaching the H indicator. So the mechanic is going to check that for me. Today I checked my oil, and it was down about 60%, never had that problem, so I was thinking is this b/c of the cooling system. Thanks a Lot. Iam in Newark, NJ so these past days, its been 94F.Can overheating cooling system burn oil a lot?
A car will consume oil due to high heat. However, 60% or so is a lot of oil. It's quite possible that you have a ';blown'; head gasket. If damaged, the head gasket can easily allow oil and water to enter the cylinders when the engine is running. It can also allow oil and water to mix too.A few clues that might indicate a damaged head gasket are 1/ a light colored oil on the underside of your oil cap, 2/ engine runs MUCH better when you add water, 3/ engine consumes a lot of water daily.I hope this helps you. wow honestly..... ive had a problem like that once before and it DOES sound like a head gasket problem unfourtunatly but foutunatly for you you drive a civic it should be fairly cheap to fix.....

but first and foremost check your thermostat, they sometimes go bad, and secondly yes definatly get a coolant flush maybe its something simple like you have a leaky raiator..... and since you do live in newark i know of a place in town to service your radiator for fifty bucks...... but first you have to be 90 pecent positive that its the radiator cause thats all the guy handles
try a new temperature sender unit
the oil levels usually gets low when your car has worned out piston rings or dry valve retainers not because overheating what u need to do is to take it to a shop and get your cylinder pressure tested
YES.
