Would a computer run cooler and/or faster immersed in mineral oil?

OIL IS NON CONDUCTIVE.Would a computer run cooler and/or faster immersed in mineral oil?
Why yes it would, but be sure and dye the oil red first.Would a computer run cooler and/or faster immersed in mineral oil?
It might if you had a pump circulating the mineral oil through a radiator or something. I'm not sure how good the heat transfer properties of mineral oil are. Also , if you immerse the entire computer in mineral oil, fans, disk drive, etc, would get gummed up really bad. You can get water cooling systems for computers. You have special heat sinks for processor, video card, and other hot-running items with tubes attached to to them that you circulate water through, with an external radiator and fan somewhere. Overkill for all but the most hardcore overclockers, and if you get a leak anywhere, you're going to lose some hardware.
definately not. the oil is going to slow any moving parts down. this means CD's, harddrives, and fans.

even is something is immersed in oil, it will still produce heat, and with no way to get the heat out of there, it might overheat. not good.

as for the harddrive, there is a little arm that moves back and forth real fast. immersing something like this in oil will slow this down CONSIDERIBLY and it will render it near USELESS! same goes for the CD drive.

don't do it
I doubt it.

Your best bet is to just put some oversized fans and heatsinks on the necessary components.

They actually make liquid cooling systems that consist of an external pump - and you put these little pads on your processor, memory, mobo chipset, even the hard drive. They are a little expensive, but are supposed to be very very nice. Alienware.com has an option to include it with your system purchase.
