Career advice. How do i become an Electrician on an oil rig?

What courses/directions do i need to take?Career advice. How do i become an Electrician on an oil rig?
Some more details would be helpful. Are you looking at working on a mobile derrick, a stationary drilling area, or offshore? That can make a huge difference in the list of courses that you will be requiring (mainly for safety certifications and additional training for the specific types of problems associated with the type of rig), as well as your chances of being hired on.

You also could take up an electrician's job at a production facility installing all the electrical for various rig vessels, which pays just as well, and keeps you in the city if you have a wife or kids to tend to.Career advice. How do i become an Electrician on an oil rig?

Well first of all you need to become a certified electrician.

You can probably do that thru a tech college coop program that combines education with practical experience.

Also, you should focus on heavy duty industrial power supply. In particular 3 phase power.
