If your the type of driver thats going to drive the MGBGT hard,I'd fit one.Basicly the oil cooler does exactly what it says on the tin, cools the oil keeping it thicker,so more protection,so longer engine life.I had one fitted to my Midget and oil pressure improved when engine was hot.On an MGBGT engine does the lack of an oil cooler effect the engines performance/longevity?
It won't help. Use synthetic oil at the right weight. It holds up to heat a lot better,.On an MGBGT engine does the lack of an oil cooler effect the engines performance/longevity?
No because of it design and use of a cast iron block and relatively low revs it does not generate the heat of modern engines and dissipates heat that it does produce very well
Put one on, those tend to run hot and a cooler will go a long way in making it run more efficiently, last longer.
not the perfomance .
THE ENDURANCE.
I've mostly heard of transmission coolers extending transmission life rather than engine oil coolers. The modern synthetic engine oils can handle extreme high temperatures and not form sludge in your engine.

Of course, because the engine wont be being cooled efficiently, it will cause the car to overheat, quite often, and with an old car like that, it would end up costing a lot to repair.
They went to the 5 bearing crank with oil cooler as standard because the 3 bearing with no oil cooler was prone to failures.
