1988 mercury sable in very good shape.i noticed a slight bit of red fluid at the crimped connection where the steel line from the tranmission is connected to a hose. to fix, i would have to buy a complelete new oil cooler from the dealer. i would like to instead use a tubing cutter and cut the steel line behind the crimp, then do the same where the hose ends %26amp; joins to the other end of the steel line. i will use 360 degree clamps. is this an acceptable fix? must i flare the ends of the steel lines to give the hose something to grab on?Is it ok to cut the automatic transmission oil cooler steel line %26amp; repair with a piece of hose %26amp; hose clamps?
It is ok to do a repair on your tranny cooler line like you say. The cooler has little resistance in it to the flow so there is little if any preasure present, I have done repairs like this many times. Is it ok to cut the automatic transmission oil cooler steel line %26amp; repair with a piece of hose %26amp; hose clamps?
1988 be careful cus these transmision is expensive better buy a transmission cooler aftermarket is around 40.00 buks and so easy to install I think the cooler is inside on the radiator if you leak is near to the trany you need the quick conector
Cut it and clamp it.
You can use hose to fix the cooler lines. I would advise you to use pressure fittings to attach the metal lines to the hose. make sure that there is on coroasion where you put the pressure fittings. I doubt that prefabricated lines are available for a car that old available. I don't think the dealer will even have them, so you will probably have to make even if you use steel lines.
