I had a 89 SC and I used sodium silicate to plug mine, it's really hard to fix because of the aluminum heads, you may have to replace them, that's why I chose the water glass treatment :)

my guess is that the car overheated recently. maybe the temperature gauge doesnt work as with my 92 tbird. the cooling system must be fixed if faulty, and compression checks after gasket is replaced must be done to ensure no cracked block. if head got warped , it may hv to be machined


the fix may be as simple as a new water pump or fan belt, and a new head gasket.
I am sorry about your car. My advice is that you look at the headgasket problem as one that has been slowly getting worse. Like you said, you only drove half a mile so the head gasket was probably deteriorating long before that. If you aren't doing the labor yourself then look into the cost of a used engine. When they pull the cylinder heads on your car they may see more damage, or maybe consider getting rebuilt cylinder heads. If you like the car then don't be afraid to keep it.
It will be another 20 years or so before these become serious collectors items if they ever do. They are still dropping in value at this point.





It is HIGHLY unlikely that you will recoup the cost of the repair if you decide to sell the car, unless you can do the work yourself.
If this vehicle has the 3.8L V-6 it is a common problem to blow the head gasket especially in the engines manufactored between 1988 and 1996, you should check with Ford, there was a TSB pertaining to that problem in certain applications, working at the Ford garage I must have fixed about 40 of them in the last 15 years.

as with all oiled cooled engines there won't b a water radiator. look for a smaller radiator looking part in the engine bay but that does not have any access to it ie a cap. thats the oil cooler, should have a pipe going in and out somewhere. thus ur car is oil cooled.

Here's what happened. I was a doofus and didn't put any oil in my 1990 Toyota 4-Runner. I was driving home last night going at a pretty good clip (80 mph), when there was a cranking noise from the engine, and everything shut off. I put the car in neutral and coasted for awhile before I came to a stop at the side of the road. I popped the hood and there was smoke. I unscrewed the cap for the engine oil and smoke came billowing out from there. I checked the oil and it was bone dry. My friend took me to a gas station where I bought three bottles of 1040 oil. First off, three bottles of 10w40 isn't even enough to get the oil onto the dipstick, so you were trying to fire up again with insufficient oil.





Running at high speed generates a lot of heat in the engine; doing it without oil generates a tremendous amount of heat and even less mechanism to carry the heat away - the oil is pretty important in keeping stuff cool. Keeping metal parts away from each other is pretty important too, and without oil you've had some crucial bits weld each other together. That cranking sound was something breaking.





Try this: Add more oil until the dipstick shows FULL. Then try to gently turn the engine over - put a wrench with a long handle on the big bolt at the front of the engine, the one on the center of the fan, and just try to turn the engine by hand. If you're incredibly lucky, then it seized from heat but relaxed again later. If that's the case, you may be able to turn the engine some. If you can do that, you may be able to start it.





But I doubt it. Time to call Jasper and price up a new engine.

hook up a breaker bar to the crank and try to turn it over by hand, if it won,t budge, you locked up the engine. if you dont have the money for a new engine, do this. drop the oil pan and loosen all the bearings and try to turn it over by hand using a breaker bar and then torque the bearings back up and put the oil pan back on. if your lucky, it should start.
Well Mr Doofus, you most likely have incurred a very costly mistake. You cooked the rod bearings along with other major components which oil is there life blood. You best bet now is to either sale it as is, or invest some more money in a motor, the cheap route would be to pick up a motor from a salvage yard, or have a mechanic place a crate motor in it. Sounds like a seized engine. An auto engineer may be able to re-bore the engine block but it may be more economical to to buy a second hand engine and just replace it.

Sounds more like magnesium dust from corrosion. The engine case is an aluminum/magnesium alloy. If it sat with condensation in it for a length of time you have a problem.You've seen how aluminum corrodes and instead of hard red rust like steel it turns to a powdery white dust. I'm afraid that is what you see in your oil. You may get lucky if you keep changing out the oil and filter. maybe add a cup full of Marvel Mystery Oil each time. Try this web site for more info.

You have still got condensation and sediment in the oil system. Run it for a short time to warm it up and then repeat the oil and filter change. Don't run any additives or chemical flushes through it. They would probably cause damage by blocking the oil passages. I have brought engines ';back to life'; and never needed to use them. Don't use the non-detergent oil as suggested by another. It would allow formation of deposits that you are already trying to get rid of.
Sounds like an oil additive or ';Never Seize'; or ';Lubriplate'; was added to the oil before it was shut down. Some gumbo. I wouldn't worry about it though, considering it runs. That is all you really are interested in.

You don't need any additives. Heck, they don't even need detergent oil as they are meant to run on straight weights SAE30 or SAE20(in the winter)

Oil leaking out of hole in cooling fins in Yamaha (FZR600) Engine???

I just bought a FZR600 and discovered oil coming from the hole in the cooling fins on the ';passenger'; side of the head. I assume it's been dropped before but I don't know that for sure. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this hole is. I've been told by one mechanic that the oil may be leaking in from the valve cover gasket or the seals around the spark plugs. Another mechanic told me that it's just a factory drilled hole that had a plug in it and the plug probably just fell out. They said if I hammered a BB in it, it would plug the hole and I would be fine. I'm kind of nervous about hammering a BB into my engine because it would be very bad if it went into one of the cylinders. Having a larger vehicle is simply a person trying to compensate for something else lacking in their life. Wether that be a boring life, misdirected anger, whatever, the point is the bigger their vehicle the worse their life is. Although, off-roading is a lot of fun, it is a unbelievable rush flying through the air, G-forces pulling your body in all directions. I find riding a BMX bike down the side a mountain can be fun and you dont need a 3 ton jacked up 5MPG truck to expeirence this. You can do it with a 600 lb, cleaner burning 4 stroke ATV. I have a Four Wheel Drive truck. it is a 1951 Dodge Power Wagon. I use it to move things around the property. There is nothing that I have that it will not move. (not even the house.) I do not ues it on the road but when I do drive it I sure get some eyes. I too think that you dont need a 4x4 to go to the store in the city. But if you live in the country and can only aford one veical it is good to have a truck with 4x4 capacity. there are many times that the road is closed due to wash outs and snow in the winter and there are reasons for the power of a 4x4 Truck in the summer too.
I think it's all a matter of taste and culture. I don't hate people for having 4x4, but they'd better watch out on really slick roads. That still doesn't mean that they are invincible!

I do personal own a 4X4 for multiple reasons I feel safe driving a larger vehicle, I have a need to tow equipment regularly and the four wheeled drive is needed to transport equipment in poor traction conditions I'm not condoning Joe show driving alone in the largest SUV on Earth however as far as environmental conditions apparently you are just parroting what you hear on TV air pollution is a global Cancer that is all about politics and pay offs as larger company's purchase pollution credits allotted smaller company's that don't have industrial pollution concerns your average SUV will not put out as much pollution in its life as a Industrial production plat paying its way out of trouble. This is and should not be a concern just for the U.S. Ive been to countries other than the U.S. I'm not sure if they know the meaning of pollution I asked a local if they knew what the large round building across the street from an apartment was? He stated he had no idea. It was in-fact a nuclear cooling tower. and was located within a heavily populated area the condition of the tower and what was pouring out of it was unbelievable. So for all you concerns about what other people are driving step back and take a wider picture.
I have a very large, very thirsty 4X4 and dang proud. Not too worried about the cool factor (it is a nice ride though). I used to have a small pickup. In my full size 4X4 I feel much safer (visible) when on the road with 18 wheelers and other idiots that don't check their blind spots before making lane changes. And....I can go where I want to, since my truck will get me there and back.
We have a 4x4 ... but live in the Highlands ... so its not for any ';cool'; twaddle ,just that it is necessary for the terrain and climate ... and it is actually cheaper on fuel than out previous Peugot.

I recently bought a Sunpentown Evaporative Cooler (also known as a Swamp Cooler). For those familiar with these coolers AND Essential Oils: Would it be OK to add a few drops of an essential oil (Ex. Lavender) to the Ice + Water input? I guess the thing I'm most worried about is the essential oil potentially damaging the plastic insides. If you CAN add essential oils to the Evap. Cooler, it would seem to make a nice diffuser :-).

I have, and have had over 20 pieces of Honda Power Equiipment. Lawnmowers, generators, tillers, a power carrier, outboards, water pumps, all were great, and I used 10-30 detergent, Pennz, Honda, Valvoline. It depends on how often you change your oil, and mow your lawn. Your owners manual gives you a recomended change interval. If you are using your mower 30 minutes or less a week, than change it once a year, but check it more often. If you want to change it less often, than use the synthetic. Also keep a fuel stabilizer, for example Stabil, in your fuel at about 2 oz to a gallon. My HR21 Honda was from 1976, and it is still going strong, as is the rest of my Hondas. I change the oil on all of them every year, and the bottom end oil on the outboards every other year. Unless I get lucky enough to fish more often. You did not mention if you were using this commercially, or if you are in particularly dusty conditions. To a strict vegan yes certainly off limits. I wouldn't feel happy about it myself and I am a vegetarian not a vegan.

Many vegans would rather not eat fries cooked in the same oil as meat products. I don't know if I'd call it off-limits, but it's a lot different from shared machinery, where at least a token effort is made to clean the machines.

Oil cooler or head gasket. The 6.0 is known for head gasket trouble. Ford has a 100,000 mile warranty on the head gasket.

if there is oil in your cooling system, it's a cracked head or leaking head gasket. Replacement heads are about 250.00 ea plus mechanical work. If you have a friend to do the labour you can save some money.
