flapper check valve on exhaust is either stuck open or missing,or oil cooler is leakingMy boat is getting water in the oil its a 1987 4 winns with 3.7 liter with closed cooling system?
you have a bad seal there is 2 of them behind the impeller thats contained in the same cover for the timeing chain
Sounds like blown head gasket.
Head gasket or cracked head.

my 1993 thunderbird Super charger is in good shape with leather seats, power sunroof, etclittle rust,I understand that this car is becoming a collectors car ,so it is probably worth fixing the blown head gasket. My 1993 ThunderbirdSC blew its head gasket,it was cool as it had just driven a half mile .aand had the oil cha
I had a 89 SC and I used sodium silicate to plug mine, it's really hard to fix because of the aluminum heads, you may have to replace them, that's why I chose the water glass treatment :)

if you let the antifreeze get old, the water will get electrolysis and eat out the headsMy 1993 ThunderbirdSC blew its head gasket,it was cool as it had just driven a half mile .aand had the oil cha
my guess is that the car overheated recently. maybe the temperature gauge doesnt work as with my 92 tbird. the cooling system must be fixed if faulty, and compression checks after gasket is replaced must be done to ensure no cracked block. if head got warped , it may hv to be machined

the fix may be as simple as a new water pump or fan belt, and a new head gasket.
I am sorry about your car. My advice is that you look at the headgasket problem as one that has been slowly getting worse. Like you said, you only drove half a mile so the head gasket was probably deteriorating long before that. If you aren't doing the labor yourself then look into the cost of a used engine. When they pull the cylinder heads on your car they may see more damage, or maybe consider getting rebuilt cylinder heads. If you like the car then don't be afraid to keep it.
It will be another 20 years or so before these become serious collectors items if they ever do. They are still dropping in value at this point.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that you will recoup the cost of the repair if you decide to sell the car, unless you can do the work yourself.
If this vehicle has the 3.8L V-6 it is a common problem to blow the head gasket especially in the engines manufactored between 1988 and 1996, you should check with Ford, there was a TSB pertaining to that problem in certain applications, working at the Ford garage I must have fixed about 40 of them in the last 15 years.

Amsoil makes several synthetic oils for lawn and garden applications. The high resistance to thermal and oxidative breakdown makes synthetics ideal for hard-working air-cooled engines such as yours. If your engine calls for an SAE 40, check out the Formula 4-Stroke 0W-40. Check this link: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14鈥?/a>

How to tell if ur park avenue buick 93' is an engine oiled cooled or not?

It will have oil cooler lines going to drivers side of the radiator. How to tell if ur park avenue buick 93' is an engine oiled cooled or not?
Your question does not make sense. Try again. How to tell if ur park avenue buick 93' is an engine oiled cooled or not?
as with all oiled cooled engines there won't b a water radiator. look for a smaller radiator looking part in the engine bay but that does not have any access to it ie a cap. thats the oil cooler, should have a pipe going in and out somewhere. thus ur car is oil cooled.
    your question doesn't make sense

It is fresh water. We changed oil three times. how do u flush the cooling system.?

Let the car cool down. Open the drain cock on the bottom of the radiator. Remove the thermostat and replace housing without the thermostat. Remove radiator cap and top hose from radiator. Run water through the block and radiator with a garden hose.

My car broke down because there was no oil in it, now after the engine has cooled down, it still won't even tu

Here's what happened. I was a doofus and didn't put any oil in my 1990 Toyota 4-Runner. I was driving home last night going at a pretty good clip (80 mph), when there was a cranking noise from the engine, and everything shut off. I put the car in neutral and coasted for awhile before I came to a stop at the side of the road. I popped the hood and there was smoke. I unscrewed the cap for the engine oil and smoke came billowing out from there. I checked the oil and it was bone dry. My friend took me to a gas station where I bought three bottles of 1040 oil. Poured them all in my car and went home and waited a couple hours for it to cool. I came back later last night and it still wouldn't start for me. It won't even turn over. Anyone have any idea what I'm dealing with here?My car broke down because there was no oil in it, now after the engine has cooled down, it still won't even tu
    You've destroyed your engine.

First off, three bottles of 10w40 isn't even enough to get the oil onto the dipstick, so you were trying to fire up again with insufficient oil.

Running at high speed generates a lot of heat in the engine; doing it without oil generates a tremendous amount of heat and even less mechanism to carry the heat away - the oil is pretty important in keeping stuff cool. Keeping metal parts away from each other is pretty important too, and without oil you've had some crucial bits weld each other together. That cranking sound was something breaking.

Try this: Add more oil until the dipstick shows FULL. Then try to gently turn the engine over - put a wrench with a long handle on the big bolt at the front of the engine, the one on the center of the fan, and just try to turn the engine by hand. If you're incredibly lucky, then it seized from heat but relaxed again later. If that's the case, you may be able to turn the engine some. If you can do that, you may be able to start it.

But I doubt it. Time to call Jasper and price up a new engine.

My car broke down because there was no oil in it, now after the engine has cooled down, it still won't even tu
hook up a breaker bar to the crank and try to turn it over by hand, if it won,t budge, you locked up the engine. if you dont have the money for a new engine, do this. drop the oil pan and loosen all the bearings and try to turn it over by hand using a breaker bar and then torque the bearings back up and put the oil pan back on. if your lucky, it should start.
Well Mr Doofus, you most likely have incurred a very costly mistake. You cooked the rod bearings along with other major components which oil is there life blood. You best bet now is to either sale it as is, or invest some more money in a motor, the cheap route would be to pick up a motor from a salvage yard, or have a mechanic place a crate motor in it. Good luck.
Sounds like a seized engine. An auto engineer may be able to re-bore the engine block but it may be more economical to to buy a second hand engine and just replace it.
You might have ruined the engine. It will take a mechanic to really find out what happened. The pistons probably are frozen to the cylinder walls.
You're probably dealing with a ruined engine.

Chances are you may need to swap it out for a different one.
you have a totally conked engine, a mechanic will have to sort you.
Your motor locked up from lack of oil, and you are a doofus. But you learned a lesson. My son still kills motors this way.
chances are you just got lucky that you made it home. sounds like you blew the engine and will need a new engine now.
possibly seized motor, (pistons fused in the cylinders)
    sounds like a cracked block

What does grey crankcase oil mean in an air-cooled VW engine?

I'm trying to get an engine running that has been sitting for three years. When I drained the oil that had been sitting it was black with maybe 2 ounces of water in it. I ran it for a few minutes with fresh oil and a new filter. That oil has turned grey. What does grey crankcase oil mean in an air-cooled VW engine?
Sounds more like magnesium dust from corrosion. The engine case is an aluminum/magnesium alloy. If it sat with condensation in it for a length of time you have a problem. You've seen how aluminum corrodes and instead of hard red rust like steel it turns to a powdery white dust. I'm afraid that is what you see in your oil. You may get lucky if you keep changing out the oil and filter. maybe add a cup full of Marvel Mystery Oil each time. Try this web site for more info.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/What does grey crankcase oil mean in an air-cooled VW engine?
You have still got condensation and sediment in the oil system. Run it for a short time to warm it up and then repeat the oil and filter change. Don't run any additives or chemical flushes through it. They would probably cause damage by blocking the oil passages. I have brought engines ';back to life'; and never needed to use them. Don't use the non-detergent oil as suggested by another. It would allow formation of deposits that you are already trying to get rid of.
Sounds like an oil additive or ';Never Seize'; or ';Lubriplate'; was added to the oil before it was shut down. Some gumbo. I wouldn't worry about it though, considering it runs. That is all you really are interested in.

Not a worry. And the moisture is common (more so on engines that have a few miles on them.) What filter? Most air cools just have a screen.

You don't need any additives. Heck, they don't even need detergent oil as they are meant to run on straight weights SAE30 or SAE20(in the winter)
it's still got water in it..add some motor flush and run it for a few minutes and drain again..

  • Oil leaking out of hole in cooling fins in Yamaha (FZR600) Engine???

I just bought a FZR600 and discovered oil coming from the hole in the cooling fins on the ';passenger'; side of the head. I assume it's been dropped before but I don't know that for sure. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this hole is. I've been told by one mechanic that the oil may be leaking in from the valve cover gasket or the seals around the spark plugs. Another mechanic told me that it's just a factory drilled hole that had a plug in it and the plug probably just fell out. They said if I hammered a BB in it, it would plug the hole and I would be fine. I'm kind of nervous about hammering a BB into my engine because it would be very bad if it went into one of the cylinders. Has anyone else out there seen this type of leak and know how to fix it?Oil leaking out of hole in cooling fins in Yamaha (FZR600) Engine???
    It's a drain hole.

If water gets into the spark plug wells, it goes down

You mechanic friend gave you a good diagnosis.

I'd replace the valve cover gasket.

I don't know what year your bike is, so I don't know if it has spark plug o-rings. Some bikes have the o-rings incorporated into the valve cover gasket.

SAE 40 means that the oil has a viscosity rating of 40 at a temperature of 212 F.

you can buy synthetic oil that is SAE 40.

in multigrade oils, which is most common, there are two numbers, there is a number, followed by a W, then there is a base.

the W stands for winter and gives a viscosity rating for cold weather.

so, a 10W-40 has a viscosity rating of 10 in cold weather, but normally 40.

If it feels good, do it !!!
The term is called ';mixed media,'; and that is pretty cool as long as the material work well together. But using too many different materials can make for a pretty confusing image.

A good example would be a watercolorist who makes a pen and ink lind drawing, either, before or after the watercolor.

I have done some illustrations using wax crayon and water color. The crayon areas did some interesting water ';resist'; effects which looked terrific.

What is NOT cool is trying for Eubonic-like intrusions in speech and writing. ';Dat'; sort of action make one appear ignorant and uneducated.
I'd say try it. There are no rules. It may not turn out like you want, but mixed media can be a very beautiful thing! There are so many ways to use each of those medias, and the only way to be familiar with them is to test and practice with them. Good luck!
    its called ';mixed media';

Do 4x4 drivers really think they are cool? I think they are oil-guzzling sheep who have no mind of their own.?

With oil prices rising, environmental matters coming to the fore I really think that the human race has not progressed that much. People who base their lives on material goods are superficial and let's fact it - thick!

Having a larger vehicle is simply a person trying to compensate for something else lacking in their life. Wether that be a boring life, misdirected anger, whatever, the point is the bigger their vehicle the worse their life is. Although, off-roading is a lot of fun, it is a unbelievable rush flying through the air, G-forces pulling your body in all directions. I find riding a BMX bike down the side a mountain can be fun and you dont need a 3 ton jacked up 5MPG truck to expeirence this. You can do it with a 600 lb, cleaner burning 4 stroke ATV. And you can get to much better places on an ATV that some trucks can't go.Do 4x4 drivers really think they are cool? I think they are oil-guzzling sheep who have no mind of their own.?
Well I have a 4x4, and even though I think its a drain on the environment, I still think its cool.

    Shoot Me.
Personally, I NEED 4WD, as my hobby takes me out into the desert where, without it, I would not return.

Get a life, and start enjoying the little time you have left. The world will be fine without your worrying.
ur opinion is just that, on the other hand heres a thought.......u drive whatever u chose to drive and somehow u think my choice was wrong, cause u say so.....how ignorant is that! i thimk u should go vote for hillary, i hope in 2008 the white house, the house and congress are all won by democrats............and guess what,,,,fuel will still be too damn expensive, bread will still be 2 bucks a loaf, housing will still be out of reach and teh roads will still be in poor shape, grwo up and realize that nothing will change dramatically, and i will continue to guzzle fuel and pollute the precious environment,,,cause i can...id rather be gay than a democrat. have a nice day.
I have a Four Wheel Drive truck. it is a 1951 Dodge Power Wagon. I use it to move things around the property. There is nothing that I have that it will not move. (not even the house.) I do not ues it on the road but when I do drive it I sure get some eyes. I too think that you dont need a 4x4 to go to the store in the city. But if you live in the country and can only aford one veical it is good to have a truck with 4x4 capacity. there are many times that the road is closed due to wash outs and snow in the winter and there are reasons for the power of a 4x4 Truck in the summer too.
I think it's all a matter of taste and culture. I don't hate people for having 4x4, but they'd better watch out on really slick roads. That still doesn't mean that they are invincible!
SOMBODY GIVE THIS CHARACTER A RIDE AND GO TO THE WIDOW MAKER MOUNTAIN OR SWAMP BUGGY IN THE GLADES
What are you some kinda hippie douche? Basically comes down to this, it's supposedly a free country so if ya don't want an SUV DON'T GET ONE! Personally I think a lot of people out there DON'T NEED them, and they just have one because the neighbor got one.
thats bcoz u dont have a 4x4... u dont probably know how to drive. what do you care abt other pipol's lyf, they don't complain about u
I do personal own a 4X4 for multiple reasons I feel safe driving a larger vehicle, I have a need to tow equipment regularly and the four wheeled drive is needed to transport equipment in poor traction conditions I'm not condoning Joe show driving alone in the largest SUV on Earth however as far as environmental conditions apparently you are just parroting what you hear on TV air pollution is a global Cancer that is all about politics and pay offs as larger company's purchase pollution credits allotted smaller company's that don't have industrial pollution concerns your average SUV will not put out as much pollution in its life as a Industrial production plat paying its way out of trouble. This is and should not be a concern just for the U.S. Ive been to countries other than the U.S. I'm not sure if they know the meaning of pollution I asked a local if they knew what the large round building across the street from an apartment was? He stated he had no idea. It was in-fact a nuclear cooling tower. and was located within a heavily populated area the condition of the tower and what was pouring out of it was unbelievable. So for all you concerns about what other people are driving step back and take a wider picture.
I have a very large, very thirsty 4X4 and dang proud. Not too worried about the cool factor (it is a nice ride though). I used to have a small pickup. In my full size 4X4 I feel much safer (visible) when on the road with 18 wheelers and other idiots that don't check their blind spots before making lane changes. And....I can go where I want to, since my truck will get me there and back.
We have a 4x4 ... but live in the Highlands ... so its not for any ';cool'; twaddle ,just that it is necessary for the terrain and climate ... and it is actually cheaper on fuel than out previous Peugot.

Is it OK to add Essential Oils to an Evaporative Cooler (Swamp Cooler)?

I recently bought a Sunpentown Evaporative Cooler (also known as a Swamp Cooler). For those familiar with these coolers AND Essential Oils: Would it be OK to add a few drops of an essential oil (Ex. Lavender) to the Ice + Water input? I guess the thing I'm most worried about is the essential oil potentially damaging the plastic insides. If you CAN add essential oils to the Evap. Cooler, it would seem to make a nice diffuser :-).

alot of people use 4cycle.....most of our mowers we use 10w-30 conventional in the summer-fall...... but id be inclined to use a synthetic -10w-30 rather than lawnmower 4cycle oil. WHAT SAY THE PEANUT GALLERY?Reccomended Oil/grade for HONDA Air-cooled 4-stroke OHC single cylinder 4.4HP lawnmower engine?
I have, and have had over 20 pieces of Honda Power Equiipment. Lawnmowers, generators, tillers, a power carrier, outboards, water pumps, all were great, and I used 10-30 detergent, Pennz, Honda, Valvoline. It depends on how often you change your oil, and mow your lawn. Your owners manual gives you a recomended change interval. If you are using your mower 30 minutes or less a week, than change it once a year, but check it more often. If you want to change it less often, than use the synthetic. Also keep a fuel stabilizer, for example Stabil, in your fuel at about 2 oz to a gallon. My HR21 Honda was from 1976, and it is still going strong, as is the rest of my Hondas. I change the oil on all of them every year, and the bottom end oil on the outboards every other year. Unless I get lucky enough to fish more often. You did not mention if you were using this commercially, or if you are in particularly dusty conditions. My answer is based on assuming you are using this as a homeowner with a nice green lawn.Reccomended Oil/grade for HONDA Air-cooled 4-stroke OHC single cylinder 4.4HP lawnmower engine?

Can a vegan eat french fries cooled in vegetable oil if that oil is also used to deep fry meat and fish?

My roommate is a vegan. I am not, and I like to eat at a fast food stand that deep fries its hot dogs fish and chicken.

Does potential residue from the hot dog and chickens in the oil render the french fries off limits to a strict vegan? Can a vegan eat french fries cooled in vegetable oil if that oil is also used to deep fry meat and fish?
To a strict vegan yes certainly off limits. I wouldn't feel happy about it myself and I am a vegetarian not a vegan.

But don't they have a separate vat for frying chips?

I would have thought they would but maybe not if it's a very small place. Can a vegan eat french fries cooled in vegetable oil if that oil is also used to deep fry meat and fish?
Many vegans would rather not eat fries cooked in the same oil as meat products. I don't know if I'd call it off-limits, but it's a lot different from shared machinery, where at least a token effort is made to clean the machines.
Strictly, no. But, most vegans wouldn't because they think that is bad
GROSS. I would never do that... but some i guess they could if they wanted to.
I am a former chef and with the oil so hot there is no transfer of ';juices'; or ';flavours'; to contaminate the non meat products, that is like say you can not stir fry a vegan dish in pan the once cooked a steak and was washed and dried before ethe next meal was prepared, ';Yes'; smaller operation may use single fryer for both meat and veg products, but the fast food ones generally have a separate one for both as fries cook longer and at low temp than meat products, plus are they using veg oil, lard is used in some places in the southern US, and my favourite french fries as child up here in Canada, I am from Brantford ON, the home of the telephone and Wayne Gretzky, and they did there's in lard and topped them with cider vinegar and a good dose of salt.

How much oil does a 10.5 briggs and stratton air cooled engine hold?

44-48 oz. Do not over fill. If you have a dipstick don't fill it above the full mark. If is doesn't fill it level with the fill hole.

What oil do i have to put on my cooling fan to make it silent?

It really depends on the cooling fan.

What kind of fan is it?

Is it sealed, or can you get to the bearings or bushings?

What is it cooling and how hot is on the intake (cool air) side?

Don't use WD-40 or an equivalent.

    1) It will tend to accelerate wear on bushings.

    2) it will often degrade/dissolve plastic or rubber seals.

    3) it's too thin to actually stay in the bushing, leaking out and getting thrown off or out of the place you need to lubricate.

For most smallish fans (CPU fans up to household box fans) I tend to use either a couple of drops of cooking oil, or a drop or two of motor oil left in the bottle after I change my car oil.

if there is oil in your cooling system, it's a cracked head or leaking head gasket. Replacement heads are about 250.00 ea plus mechanical work. If you have a friend to do the labour you can save some money.

  • Do i have to let my car cool down before changing the oil?

I would recommend it so you don't burn your hand on the hot oil coming out of the car. It is better when it is warm because it is more viscous and will drain more thoroughly and quicker but I wouldn't just take it for a long drive and drain it right away.Do i have to let my car cool down before changing the oil?
if your doing it yourself I would suggest yes b/c it sounds like you haven't done this before or much.

you should let it cool only to protect yourself from getting burned.

but you do not have too. it can be changed when hot.

its the antifreeze that needs to cool before you open the cover.Do i have to let my car cool down before changing the oil?
U dont have to, but i would let it set a bit to let the oil get to the pan. maximize the old oil that would b drained

Leave the oil in the Cool Daddy Deep Fryer?

I lost my manual to my Cool Daddy Deep Fryer. I just fried some food in it and now I want to know if I can just leave the oil in there and use it next time. Oil is expensive and I can't see myself throwing it away.Leave the oil in the Cool Daddy Deep Fryer?
Yes, you can leave the oil in the fryer. Keep it in a cool place and keep the lid on the fryer of course. If you're not going to use the oil for a long time (over a month) just get rid of it. Kept too long, any oil will go rancid. If you plan to use the oil again within the next week, it's fine to re-use it. Any more than that, just give the oil a quick smell. You'll know right away if you want to re-use it.

The instructions will tell you to clean the thing, but you can do this:

    1. Let the oil cool.

    2. Use a funnel to put it back into its container, using a fine strainer to catch any bits of food, so you keep the oil as clean as possible.

    3. Clean the fryer.

    4. Save, label, and re-use the oil.

Be sure to remove as many bits of food as you can when you're done frying so you don't have them in with the next batch.

Personally, I used to try to save the oil. But then I weighed the cost of a few cups of oil (not really that much in the scheme of things) against the hassle of cleaning, straining and rebottling, and decided to just go ahead and buy new oil when it was time to fry again. I don't fry often enough to warrant keeping the oil around, and I find that fresh oil just tastes better anyway. Go ahead and put it in the bottle if you want. If you want to throw it out (or give it to someone to recyle as biodiesel) later, you can do that.

Good luckLeave the oil in the Cool Daddy Deep Fryer?
I would suggest using a fine mesh strainer to remove all of the remnants from the first frying before re-bottling other than that the first answer is pretty accurate

Does Cooking Oil Move Faster Through Water When Heated Or Cooled?

Please reply ASAPDoes Cooking Oil Move Faster Through Water When Heated Or Cooled?
The hotter oil will probably be less dense, so it will sink slower as there will be a greater buoyancy effect, or so I'd imagine. Test it for yourself ... it's easily done.

The only thing is - the oil and water will both cool and heat up respectively, so it's not an entirely controlled experiment by any means ... use the results qualitatively only.Does Cooking Oil Move Faster Through Water When Heated Or Cooled?
prbably when heated, i think the molecules move faster when heated.

Who can help me with HVAC oil return problems on air cooled equipment?

air conditioningWho can help me with HVAC oil return problems on air cooled equipment?
I can, but I need details. The most likely culprit is poor piping practice.

The next culprit is low ambient operation with no provisions for it, the next is 'pump down' solenoid is needed, lastly pipe size is incorrect, either suction or hot gas.

So now that the Earth is cooling, are the enviros whining to burn MORE oil and coal?

I don't think so because the enviro wako movement has been anti oil for too long to admit they were making a bit fuss about not much. They will cry wolf about something completely different though.

For the next big scare, the end really will be nigh and we really will be heading for an environmental catastrophe and people will believe it. Some of us will point out that people have been eroneously predicting environmental disasters for at least the last two hundred years and this time doesn't seem to be any different. Industrialisation and environmental alarmism seem to be inseparable. So now that the Earth is cooling, are the enviros whining to burn MORE oil and coal?
Sorry but just because you say the Earth is cooling doesn't make it so. I wish it were that easy. Here's what the people who actually measure the Earth's temperature say:

    ';A simple mathematical calculation of the temperature change over the latest decade (1998-2007) alone shows a continued warming of 0.1 掳C per decade.';

Evidence that the Earth's atmosphere is actually cooling? Please?

Let me tell you how wonderfully intelligent you sound! Sitting on the sides, criticizing scientists who have dedicated their lives to understanding the climate. It is a large and difficult problem. But I guess you know so much more than they do? I guess that's why you're on Yahoo Answers bad mouthing them and they're publishing their findings in peer-reviewed journals.
Earths climate has been warming %26amp; cooling for billions of years...We are currently in a general warming trend though

there have been some cooler years recently in some areas.

Mans contribution to this warming trend is probable.

Big Algore, the Jesse Jackson of environmentalists, is hyping global warming and making a fortune...

    The sky is not falling..

Man will adapt and be just fine whether it gets warmer or cooler...He may just have to move around a bit like he always has...
No. There's only a limited amount of fossil fuels anyway, so we may as well use less now so we know better how to do without when the time comes, and also to make that time come later.

Note that I didn't even need to relate to the unsupported premise that the Earth is cooling.
';So now that the Earth is cooling'; is a statement as is

'The moon is made of green cheese'

Neither statement is supported by observational evidence.

I remember 25 years ago Time Magazine had a big article about global cooling. I knew it was a lie then. Just like I know global warming is a lie now. Now global cooling is coming back. Sad thing is there are actually people that believe this nonsense.
There's no cooling. That's why you have no evidence to show any.

oil lubricate critical parts of the engine so a few oil in the water system don't affect in nothing

so buy a radiator flush bottle use it for 5 mins then add new water and coolant
if it was small amount leave it in so lube the water pump if it was a large amount drain it there is no damage done but if it was coolant in the oil u would be in trouble. Some of the rust on the walls on the water jackets will be free of some rust.

    Good Luck Happy motoring

Why is there oil in my water container for the cooling system on my vauxhall astra 1.7dti w reg?

is the coolant creamy white and thicker than water? if so headgasket is gone. go to ur local garage n get it checked. Why is there oil in my water container for the cooling system on my vauxhall astra 1.7dti w reg?
Probability is that your Oil /Water systems are compromised.

If there is enough Oil detectable in your Coolant system the chances are you will find evidence of a white frothy scum on the underside of your Oil Filler Cap.

This is symptomatic of Head gasket failure (a thin membrane of material that sealsand separates the above Systems at the business end of the engine - allowing the two to mix which is detrimental to both -- rapidly.

Best WishesWhy is there oil in my water container for the cooling system on my vauxhall astra 1.7dti w reg?
I had this problem on a Cavalier fitted with the same engine as yours, it turned out to be the intercooler (at the base of the oil filter) letting engine oil into the cooling system.

It might be worth your while checking this out first without dismantling the engine to see if the head gasket has failed, as it may involve less expense.

    Hope this helps!
It may not be oil. A number of coolant additives are either a green or brown colour, and can look like oil at first glance. I suggest you remove the filler cap when cold %26amp; have a sniff to see if there is oil present. As suggested by others, the age of your car must be taken into account as to how much money you are willing to spend on any repairs. A quick fix is the addition of ';radweld'; or similar to the cooling system. Used it many times over the years to good effect
    Head Gasket mate

its not the gasket that is expensive its the fitting. if you can get it fitted cheap then it may be worth checking flebay for one. might not be for yours not sure but...

Is the car automatic? Does it have an oil cooler? If the answer to both these questions is no, then unfortunately the most likely reason for your problem is that your head gasket has failed.

My advice would be to have a garage do a compression test and sniffer test.

    Ja.
it could be the head gasket(most likely) or if your car is an automatic, it could be that the transmission cooling line that runs through your radiator could have ruptured leaking fluid in to the cooling system
Most likely to be a head gasket failure, also check the oil filler cap as this will most likely have a white emulsion on it as the oil and water mix.
If your lucky the head gasket has gone, if your unlucky you have a cracked engine block
Head gasket gone, get compression test to make sure.
DITO....Head gasket. Never a cheap fix.

    Sorry!
sound's like head gasket to me, good luck.

  • Why does it take a long time for heated oil to get cool?

Because it contains heat. The heat contained by a substance is given by H=cpT where H=heat, cp = specific heat and T=temperature. The specific heat of oil is relatively high, say compared to air or plastic. Materials with high specific heats take more energy (either added to or removed from) to change each degree of temperature.

What is the cooling oil in the chrysler Voyager and where can I get it?

A couple of months ago I purchase a chrysler voyager 2.0lt engine. year 1998. Petrol. I went to check the engine oil today before going on a long trip. and when checking oil I noticed another kind of oil cap near where you fill up wind screen wash and it says coolent oil on cap. Oil in the cooling system is a bad sign.

Should only be water and coolant in their.

Best case: you have a blown cylinder head gasket.

Worst case: a crack between coolant chamber and some other part of block or head.

A shop can diagnose this using a compression test on each cylinder and tell you where it has blown.

    Oil in cooling water?

I have a peugot expert van and it has some oil in the coolant but no water in the engine oil. Whats up?Oil in cooling water?
The fourth answer makes the most sense. Someday, I hope all car and truck manufactures will build separate transmission oil coolers rather depending on 195 degree engine coolant to lower the temperature of a very small oil coolant tank inside the radiator expansion tank.

This design has got to be the most inefficient ways to lower the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid.Oil in cooling water?
Is more and likely transmission oil, why I say this, is because, most companies put the transmission oil cooler inside the radiators coolant tank on the radiator. If it develops a leak, and such, that is how you would know that there is a problem. It can be by passed, just get another oil cooler, and route the transmission oil lines to it.
it,s probably coming from where the transmission lines are hooked up to. there,s probably a crack in the radiator cooling part for the transmission. check the transmission to see if it,s low.
it is most likely your oil cooler the oil filter is attached to it possible just the gasket for the oil cooler but most likely the oil cooler itself.
cracked block blown head gasket head gasket blown between the cyl and a water jacket
Check the radiator to see if the cooler tank has a crack in it.

  • We bought a car 6 weeks ago, and today I was told that there was oil in the cooling system. Help!!?

We have been driving the car with no temperature problems. Nothing is over heating, the air con works etc. Is the car safe to drive? What effect does oil in the coolent have? We haven't topped up the coolant. Any info anyone can provide will be gratefully received! thanksWe bought a car 6 weeks ago, and today I was told that there was oil in the cooling system. Help!!?
if what you say is absolutely correct in every detail it is possible that somebody topped up the raditor with oil which should have gone in the engine! It won't do a lot of harm but it would be better out of there. If you run the car with the radiator cap off and introduce washig up liduid slowly to the radiator it may absorb the oil. You then add water to the radiator until it overflows (keep the engine running.)We bought a car 6 weeks ago, and today I was told that there was oil in the cooling system. Help!!?
Oil in the coolant usually means a head gasket leak. The car will drive fine... for a while. The coolant will lose it's effectiveness because of the oil, and the coolant may get foamy, which will cause cavitation in the coolant pump and subsequently will cause the cooling system to stop cooling. You need to get it checked by a mechanic to find the source of the problem.
May be best to go to a garage you trust. Ask them to drain, flush and refill the cooling system. Ask them for an oil and oil filter change.

This will now mean that you can monitor the clean coolant and oil. Make sure both levels are correct.

Keep a close check on levels and condition of fluids. If you now get oil contamination in the coolant then it is probably the head gasket.

The above shouldnt cost any more than 拢100. At least this way you can be sure that there is a problem with the head gasket before getting the engine rebuilt.

Who told you there was oil in the coolant? Have you a warranty of any kind?

All the best and good luck
Before you have a coronary, remove the oil filler cap and see if it has a covering of light brown gooey stuff (emulsified oil). Usually when a head gasket goes, the water contaminates the oil, not oil in water, it may be something as simple as someone else has said, the previous owner may have poured oil into the water reservoir.
Oil in coolant means your gaskets are bad.
I can understand every ones opinion of head gasket etc.but if running fine, not overheating etc,has someone put ... oil in the rad, women perhaps? mine did!!
It generally means that the head gasket has gone ... i would get it looked at quickly
was it a cheap car - less than 拢1000.00?

if so run it into the ground %26amp; keep putting oil in.
first of all..... just who told you. to check it out take off the radiator cap look at the bottom of it if there's a substance like a nasty milk shake then check the oil dipstick if the same stuff is on it change both fluids then if it happens again you have a problem if not, you were lied to witch is not uncommon.
if you leave it the engine could get gummed up as the oil and water solidify then its BANG and your engine is dead
I would not Drive this car untill the problem is fixed if it is trans. fluid then youn will need a new radiater becouse your trans cooler is leaking if it is oil from the moter then you most likely need a head gasket.
sounds like the head gasket has gone, water and oil galleries are close to each other in an engine, when the head gasket goes the oil escapes into the water gallery and ends up in the coolant, not a good idea to drive it too much thought, you could end up with water getting into the piston chambers and that would be catostophic.
Since the cooling system pressured up when hot, you should also have a foamy chocolate look to your oil if it is the head gasket [which is the MOST LIKELY diagnosis]. If you have a automatic transmission and the ';oil'; that is in your cooling system could be trans fluid you may have a hole in the trans cooler [where the trans fluid passes through a coil in your radiator]. There is also the chance that someone got sloppy and put oily stuff in there in the past. Check for the froth in your transmission as well as your engine because water and oil don't mix BY THEMSELVES but will with mechanical mixing!
    Sccccccchhhhh, Head gasket... Sounds expensive!
oil in the cooling system is normally produced when the head gasket fails or if the car has auto transmission from the oil cooler in the radiator, but since you dont have any problems with running,or loss of coolant or oil my guess would be that the problem has been resolved but the oil has not been fully flushed from the system,[this can be quite difficult to fully remove]dont worry just regulary check oils and water for loss, the car is safe to drive, good luck.
The mans got it in one

    The haedgaskets gone
Keep driving it until and unless it gets worse...the oil film could have come from the brand of col lent that is in the car
Duff cylinder head gasket,if you have a warranty,O.K,otherwise it could be pricey;depending on make of car
OH MY GOD ITS A ROVER !!!

don't pay for it to be fixed because it never lasts and you can buy a reconditioned engine cheaper , believe me I learnt the hard way .

PS when its fixed keep it serviced an it'll last years . Good Luck
Oil in the water suggests that the cylinder head gasket has gone, very big engine job I,m afraid. Who told you about it, a garage or friend. Call one of the motoring organisations to confirm before you start spending big bucks.
From what you have described, it is the head gasket. This problem will only get worse...get it fixed now....or you may want to sell the car (not sure how much you paid for it)
This may indicate a blown head gasket(interior), or a warped head. Have it checked by a qualified ASE mechanic.
If you bought the car from a dealer, then you have some re-dress. If it was a private sale, then tough titties.

Oil in the water is a sign of either a cracked cylinder head or head gasket gone.
Sounds like the head gasket has gone out. It is important to immeidately get this fixed! Oil dilluted with Coolant will not lubricate well, and may cause undue wear and the car to overheat. Coolant sludged up with oil won't cool as well and may clog passage ways. A leaking head gasket can also allow combustion gasses to blow by the gasket into coolant passages causing the vehicle to overheat. Your car may burn enough oil or coolant this way to run you dangerously low.
It CAN be the 'head gasket' - a VERY expensive repair.

However, it MAY be the oil cooler / heat exchanger found on some engines.

Basically it's a mini 'radiator' that the OIL flows through that is immersed in the coolant system. Occasionally these can develop a leak %26amp; oil flows out of the oil system and into the coolant.

Another check for possible head gasket faults in if you undo the OIL filler cap - it it is VERY white %26amp; creamy (known as mayo!) there is definate contamination BOTH ways. (a little mayo is acceptable if your car only does short journeys)
Not a mechanic but I had same thing %26amp; that was the head gasket, sorry.
the seal is gone so the engine oil mixes with the coolants water.
The bigger problem to worry about is that if your oil is getting into the coolant, the coolant will likely end up in your oil when up to temperature due to the pressure. That will ruin (if it has not already) the head of the engine. Do not drive it and get it looked at by a professional.

If you you bought in a state with a lemon law take it to the dealer you got it from. This could be very expensive. If you bought it from an individual you may have to eat it.

    Good Luck
might help a bit more if you give make and model of car, could indeed be headgasket but as someone else has already said many cars have an oil cooler and this can give the same problems. I hope its not an audi a8 4.2, very expensive!

  • Why is it that bacon grease gets hard after it cools down, yet you have stuff like vegetable oil that remains?

in a liquid from reguardless of it's temp. Aren't all oils %26amp; grease basicly the same??Why is it that bacon grease gets hard after it cools down, yet you have stuff like vegetable oil that remains?
Fats and oils chemically are basically the same, a tweek here and there causes a different in state (liquid, solid).

Bacon fat gets hard because it was hard to start with, which also means it hard in your blood vessels as well.

A few things can effect this, the most notable is ';hydrogenating';, which is what they do to veggie oil to make margarine. In animals, we need our fat to be solid to stay in place and serve its function, like protection and insulation. Why is it that bacon grease gets hard after it cools down, yet you have stuff like vegetable oil that remains?
';a tweek here or there'; describes the differences pretty well.

It explains that the ';tweek'; is the bonds in the hydrocarbon tails. When there are double bonds, the tail is kinked so the molecules can't pack as tightly (oils). No double bond allows the molecules to pack tightly (fats).

What type of oil is used in transfermer for cooling and inslution?

mineral oilWhat type of oil is used in transfermer for cooling and inslution?
Generally very low viscosity naphthenic mineral oils, but it is also possible to use fully synthetic products such as linear alkyl benzenes.

The key parametrers are very good (high) electrical resistivity and low viscosity so that the oil can permeate all parts of the transformer interior. What type of oil is used in transfermer for cooling and inslution?

Why do fat chicks eat McDonalds and, drink diet coke? Why Bother? Why not just drink a cool glass of corn oil?

I agree with you with all my heart.

When I go to Newcastle in England, I often walk past McDonalds on the high street. I never go in. But I do always stop to look in the window. Why? Because I am facinated with the hundreds of fat @rses in there. It is full of fat @rses! I play this game called 'Find The Small @rse' but that game is too difficult. All you see is these huge human-beings eating fat and getting rid of their thirst using 'Diet Cola'.

Then I continue walking down the street.

So yes! You are right 100%. These people need to count their calories on their plates before worrying about their pop.

Happy Christmas and make it a good one. Have a diet beer on me after you enjoy your dish of peanuts. Why do fat chicks eat McDonalds and, drink diet coke? Why Bother? Why not just drink a cool glass of corn oil?
Why do fat GUYS eat MCDs %26amp; drink diet coke, huh? lol Report Abuse
Why do fat chicks eat McDonalds and, drink diet coke? Why Bother? Why not just drink a cool glass of corn oil?
    WHY DO YOU CARE !!!!
Why does anybody eat McDonalds and drink diet coke?

Better yet, why does anybody drink diet coke period?
It's about the taste, as a non-fat girl who when I eat McD's (which com'on we have ALL done at some point, so get off your high horse) I like to have a diet coke. Regular coke is too sweet for my taste.
.. although I think the way you stated that was a little crude, I somewhat agree...... you might as well have the regular coke
It does seem wierd. I work at a movie theater and people will get a bucket of heavily buttered popcorn and a Diet Coke. But I've come to realize that, for some reason, some people really like Diet Coke.
This way they only have one or two bad things instead of 2-3.

FYI: This practice is not limited to overweight women, I have seen overweight men, and women and men who aren't overweight do the same thing.
It's not just fat chicks who do this - I've seen men and women, skinny and fat do it. I have no idea why you would order super fattening food and then a diet soda - it makes no sense. You might as well take the 100 extra calories and get regular soda.
Ok, I love diet coke, and I love to eat at McDonald's. I am chubby. but diet coke rocks!

If people are not fussing about the anorexic girls, they are picking on the fat girls.

Ha! I am big AND confident!, love myself, and as long as I am confident, I can eat anywhere I please and not feel ashamed, for this very reason there are so many sick secret eaters.

NOT ALL guys like SKINNY women, ONLY A DOG wants a bone!

    *S*
just because it makes themn feel good about themselves since they ';fake'; the idea of ';cutting down'; maybe to please others also. probaly.
you are right! thats gross why bother...but maybe they tried and gave up...its hard to get out of bad eating habits maybe they gave up because food is there idol
makes no sence to me either

    fast food is gross
LOL LOL LOL LOL your funny sure makes me wonder why they even bother driving to Mc Di's when they could just drink corn oil
All I can say is ------- Ewwww
You can actually lose a few pounds by cutting out one of your major ';bad'; intakes. Me for instance I lost 15lbs when I cut beer out of my diet. Instead I switched to Diet Coke and Rum. Also, I used to work a Mid shift and found me gaining some weight from drinking pop all the time, so I switched to diet green tea. Maybe it is their way to cut out one major empty calorie source.
I can't speak for all ';fat chicks';, but I switched to diet coke a while back to try and not have so much sugar. Now I can't stand the taste of regular coke because it's too sweet. It's just a habit now. I don't go to McD's for the drinks, I go for a hamburger, and don't really care what I drink. I hope you feel better now that you've made fun of someone today. What will you do for fun the rest of the day??!!
    Your an A**.

Fat people are humans too..... So have a little respect you jerk.

    And further more.

    Some people can't help that they are ';fat';

Also...... I don't like McDonalds. I'd rather had a lowfat sub.

    What a pig.
    LOL..makes you wonder huh
Lol That always cracks me up too,It makes em feel like there kinda tryin I guess
You know it is amazing how addicting Diet Coke is - I drink it with pizza, subs, seafood, chinese..........just about anything except breakfast foods. So refreshing!

    Merry Christmas!
At least they have money to eat....

nothing wrong with big girls..that just let you know that they got money to eat..its a good thing..
doesn't make any sense does it ?
Corn oil tastes yuck when you drink it
Because they like the flavor of Diet Coke. Why are you so judgemental? Why not just ask them yourself?
Hey! All my life I've drank diet pops even when I was thin and I just prefer the taste. One time I went to a fast food and ordered a diet coke and for some stupid reason they gave me a regular coke. When I tasted it, it tasted absolutely terrible. I had to pour it down the drain. Plus I'm diabetic! You are not the only rude person here. Some of the other posters are just as bad. Who are you to judge?!
well let see if you wud drink that, skinny!
I think myself you are very rude. It not how big you are. It the spirit of the person that make a difference. It come from the heart, not from the mouth. Im a large person but you know what Jesus loves everyone. Fat ,thin and whatever.
Mentally it helps justify them eating all of that junk.
I like fat chicks, they know how to please a man
For the same reason you ask questions like this.
Hey! It's not just them! And don't call them fat chicks! How rude! Why does ANYONE go to any fast food chain and order a diet anything? You might as well just have the sugar along with the 34g of fat in the burger and 20g of fat in the fries as well!

Where 2 buy 2 cycle air cooled engine oil?

for a flymo xlt 250 petrol strimmerWhere 2 buy 2 cycle air cooled engine oil?
Any Home Improvement or most hardware stores. But be careful there are three different mixtures that I know of. The oil isn't the problem you can use any 2 cycle oil. You MUST check your engine to determine the mixture. The mixtures that I have seen are 32:1, 40:1, and 50:1. If I can remember correctly your Flymo should be 32:1. Make sure you mix correctly so that you don't under-lubricate your engine. Also spending a little more for a brand oil is worth it in the long run.

Good LuckWhere 2 buy 2 cycle air cooled engine oil?
2 cycle oil is either for air cooled or water cooled engines. It will say on the label. If you go to the garden dept. of the hardware store you will find oil for air cooled engines.
Any hardware, auto supply or home center should have it.

Cooling by submersing it in oil should work ok as long as you keep the CD, DVD, and Floppy drives out in the air. Oh yes; and probably the keyboard %26amp; mouse also unless you want oily hands while using it.Oil cooling or liquid cooling?
Do liquid cooling. Oil cooling is neat, but, it's just for fun really. If you want to do any kind of work to you computer, you would have to remove all that oil, now that wouldn't be fun. Stick with liquid cooling,

You should be able to overclock that beast easily...but that CPU cooler is mainstream level...For enthusiast level I suggest you get a high end cooler for the i7 975 and slap some LED fans in push/pull instead.

I included two links to the best coolers out there.
i would think that the oil would heat up and stay warm unless you had a huge reservoir tank and it had time to cool off, i dunno tho this is the first ive ever heard of it but think about it, oil will stay warm, where if you used a anti-freeze mix its not as thick and would cool down faster

  • What happens if you there is a tiny bit of motor oil in cool-aid and you drink a couple of sips?

I would think .... it would REV UP YOUR ENGINE !! lol ... Even though motor oil is toxic, poisonous, flamable, combustible, refined and processed.. and you decided to make a cocktail with cool-aid (humm) I don't think you'll die anytime soon...NOTE: Just don't pass the coolaid around... ugh.

What happens if you there is a tiny bit of motor oil in cool-aid and you drink a couple of sips?
Ha,ha, no you'll live, if it was a quantity it would give you the runs, your body has a knack of taking care of itself, so I wouldn't worry about it. You may get more problems from the cool-aid if it has 'aspartame' in it.What happens if you there is a tiny bit of motor oil in cool-aid and you drink a couple of sips?
Motor oil is probably a good thing to get once in a while - there's lots of bacteria who like to eat motor oil.

Were you treating a motor oil deficiency?
    How did that happen?

Its probably not lethal but if ur worried then call poison control.
you get sick. it's like mixing bagels and hilly steak and cheese in your stomach.
You have about an hour to live.

Oil cooling or liquid cooling? PLZ READ EVERYTHINK!!! ?
Swings and roundabouts this one. Water cooling is good - but there are better options (such as Cryo-Cooling). Mineral oil is a clever idea, but there are issues with movement of the oil. Obviously fans are useless so you have to invest in some heavy duty heatsinks, and the parts would be completely unsaleable should you ever want to upgrade.

I would say think about what you want from the system. If you are after performance, there are better things to do with $300. The other thing is of course that a fish tank and a few gallons of mineral will not cost a lot.

If you are just making something to 'look cool', then really I can think of other ways to achieve this. The mineral oil thing is a talking point - but has already been done to death, and really you're not going to think 'how cool does my computer look' for long. Especially if you ever want to move your computer or get it repaired at any stage. Very messy!

You would be better off investing in a high quality aluminium case, water cooling if you must (cryo-cooling if you can stand the extra noise), and better hardware.

Air cooled 2 stroke 1000 watt brushless generator needs oil?

But, I cannot figure out where. It has a sticker that says put oil in the crank case but i cant see where. Does a 2 stoke engine just require cycle 2 oil mixed in with the gasoline only at a 40 : 1 ratio??? by the way it does have an additional sticker of the 40 :1 ratio as well.Air cooled 2 stroke 1000 watt brushless generator needs oil?
Most 2 stroke engines require only oil mixed with the gasoline. However, if the engine has a sticker that says to put oil in the crankcase, it is possible that the engine requires both oil in the fuel and in the crankcase. If there are stickers that you can read, you may be able to determine the brand and model of the engine. If you can do that, you may be able to find detailed instructions on the internet or contact the engine manufacturer by phone.

Is it possible that this is not the original engine that came with the generator? If the sticker that says to put oil in the crankcase is not on the engine itself, it may refer to a previous engine. It is also possible that the generator builder uses both 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines and someone put an extra sticker on en error.Air cooled 2 stroke 1000 watt brushless generator needs oil?
There should probably be some kind of oil-filled fluid drive or torque converter between the crankshaft of the engine and the generator head, so that you're not turning the generator when starting the engine. Some use centrifugal clutches, and others use fluid drives.
    A 2 stroke generator....What is that ??

Why the thumbs down ?.The question is ambiguous.

A 2 stroke is an Engine...A Driver, not necessarily of a generator..

A Generator is a Driven machine that produces electricity...

Oil in my cars cooling system?

i have a discovery td5 on a 99 plate, i found there was oil in my cooling system and promtly drained it.On enquiring about this at a local garage they told me either the head gasket had gone or the head itself was cracked, but there are no signs of water in the oil (milky residue). Is there a way of checking this before it let a garage look at it, the job could cost in excess of 拢600 which i cant afford to spend if this is not the fault.any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. thanks Foxminer.Oil in my cars cooling system?
flush your cooling system through and refill.

Recheck the oil (by removing the filler cap, not with the dipstick), there doesnt need to be a thick milky residue, just signs of slight mixing.

run the engine a while a recheck your oil and water for contamination.

these things are funny ( not ha ha), ive had cars that only showed residue in the water or oil, not necessarily in both.

I know it'll be an expensive job but try to put it to a garage you trust after checking it. Chances are its your head gasket.

AS A NOTE, TAKE CARE WHEN YOUR RUNNING A TURBO ENGINE WITH POSSIBLE WATER OIL CONTAMINATION.

WATER IN YOUR OIL CAN SPELL THE END FOR YOUR TURBOS BEARINGS WHICH WILL SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE YOUR BILLOil in my cars cooling system?
Sure it was motor oil and not tranny fluid?

So tranny coolers run inside radiators and can leak trans fluid into the coolant.
a failed head gasket is more than likely the problem it can work either way there can be water in the oil but no oil in the coolant and vice-versa, the head gasket is the main thing to go on the disco
Does indeed sound like the head gasket. You can have water in the oil, oil in the water, either or both, it just depends exactly where the gasket is faulty. I hope its not a cracked head.

You can get a garage to run some tests, but you'd have to pay for that I suspect.
you could try having a back leakage test done . this this tests for leaks between the cylinder bore and oil / water ports sealed by the head gasket . you could have the cooling system pressure tested to check for leakage in to the other systems . these tests need to be done with the engine cold and hot as expansion could give false readings
Yes it sounds like the Head Gasket. If it appears to have a no white scum in the Oil, then it may just be some cross contamination. If the Head Gasket has gone, then you may have to get the head skimmed. Try putting ';Bars Leaks'; in the coolant water to see if it solves it. As its only a few pounds and may well solve your problem.
    normally head gasket fox sorry
as you have oil in the water. after cleaning it out. see if it reappears when running! test coolant for exhaust gasses. if present suspect head gasket. as oil pressure is a lot higher than water pressure if head is cracked internally you get oil in water. and requires pressure testing to eliminate. examine gasket to see if failure has occurred at a vital point to cause contaminaion.
This is a common problem with the Freelander, first time I've heard about it on a Discovery. I know three people who had to write of otherwise good Freelanders because of problems with gaskets and fluids. Land-rover deny any fundamental problems. the only solution is a new engine, and the problem can occur with the new engine. The problem has been highlighted on Watchdog a couple of times. Good Luck..
It is possible to have oil in the coolant system without coolant in the oil. Try a pressure tetser on the coolant expansion tank, if it loses pressure there is obviously a leak, you may be even be able to hear where the leak is. It does sound like the head gasket though, sorry!

  • Does capsaicin separate from a sauce when cooled, like oil in a vinegrette when left to settle?

I am a former chef and have seen certain hot sauces separate in to vinegar and solids, it would be one that has no thickeners in it, most commonly use a gum like guar or xanthan, they are not cooked, now I have others that are emulsified with onions, carrots and other veg, I am a chili head and hot nut, have had some of the hottest available.

If it does separate, just shake it, I was at my sister a few years back, and she had a bottle they brought tot the home when they moved in when they bought the place in 1987, it was a bottle of tabasco and was black and the label was very badly faded.

2000 dodge dakota 4.7l is overheating. Replaced entire cooling system. No h20 in oil or vice versa. Any ideas?

I have repalced everything: radiator, hoses, thermosat, e-fan, radiator cap and water pump. There is no water in the oil or oil in the water. Also, there is no steam coming from the tail pipe. However, it is still overheating!2000 dodge dakota 4.7l is overheating. Replaced entire cooling system. No h20 in oil or vice versa. Any ideas?
Well you've not mentioned that you've bled the coolant system and more then likely after all that work you've air bubbles or air clogs in the system.Another thing is you should try testing the coolants quality and mixture with anti-freeze tester that places like walmart sell for about 7 bucks or so.Have the system pressured tested once you've tried all I've mentioned and the problem still exists.

Can't remember if that vehicle has a bleeder valve but there should be one either on the thermostat housing or in the system.Try starting the engine cold and make sure the coolant level is proper then allow it to warm up open the valve then wait watch for just coolant coming out then close it , do this on and off and watch the engine temperature gauges.

Once you know the coolant is good , mixed right , no bubbles etc , watch and listen for the fan to engage bec it should once engine idles warmed up a bit.If it doesn't run check it's fuse , relay , temperature sensor and the fan's wiring and the fan.

Make sure the thermostat although it's new be sure it actually is opening and working , you should of changed the coolant and at least run water through the cold engine and rad to flush it some before replacing the coolant. One thing I always try to do is test and change the coolant whenever dealing with water pumps or vehicles that haven't had it changed and are having over heating issues.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if the rad was clogged etc it could be due to an air clog and if it was due to rust etc you'd clearly see the rust and coolant quality change , plus you can bleed the coolant system by leaving the over flow or rad cap off , stand back after it's started up watch for it to over flow and you'll see the air bubbles being forced out of it.Once you do this allow engine to cool right down , top the coolant off , start it up watch for further bubbles and top it off , but don't ever use cold coolant or distilled water on a hot engine.2000 dodge dakota 4.7l is overheating. Replaced entire cooling system. No h20 in oil or vice versa. Any ideas?
There is a test for a leaking head gasket that requires letting the coolant gas flow through a chemical. If it's leaking, the chemical will turn yellow from green due to exhaust gas coming into contact with the green chemical. Most big repair shops have this kit. Also you can put a well known brand of 'stop leak in the radiator and if the leak is small, it will seal it off. The most popular brand and one I like to use is Bars Leak. It not only stops small leaks quite well, but is recommended in coolant systems without leaks as it is a good rust prevent-er and water pump lubricant.
do you know that the fan is working? you may have a bad temp sensor or worse you may have blown head gaskets, I would suggest taking it in and having it diagnosed before you waste any more money on it. You could have already paid for a proper diagnosis and possibly the repairs for the money you have thrown into unneeded parts
You can borrow a coolant system pressure tester from autozone for a refundable deposit witch would have saved you a lot. trapped air in a fuild sysyem would create super heated hot spots under normal to adverse operating conditions, and a pressure tester would reveal that
well after replacing al that then good bet it is a head gasket and it dont have to stream or have oil mixing all the have motor or radiator pressure checked should do if you see drop in pressure its a bad gasket or crack head

    Oil in cooling system?

i have a chrysler voyager 2,0. the cooling system contains oil, looks like milk shake. no water in oil, oil is clean. car runs fine. what is the problem?Oil in cooling system?
    Are you sure it's OIL?

    Are you loosing motor oil?

If so... then head gasket, or intake gasket...

    - BUT -

Most likely it's transmission fluid (ATF) if it's an automatic.

Inside your radiator there is a built in trans cooler... the plates rot inside, and usually leaks trans fluid into the cooling system. Which will still do the same as you describe. I bet that's whats going on... Usually a head gasket issue, does the opposite... and I see these internal leaks a lot.

If so... replace radiator... flush systems... you'll be fine

    - Good Luck!Oil in cooling system?
your head gasket has gone ping!!!
    head gasket gone
Transmission cooler in the radiator may be leaking allowing trans fluid into the cooling system and coolant into the trans. Pressure test the cooling system---disconnect the trans cooler lines and see if coolant comes out of the radiator fittings when you pressure test and check the trans fluid. If that's the problem, you'll need to replace the rad and flush both the cooling system and trans. Not very common but it does happen.
sounds like you have a crack or hole in the radiator, where the tranny lines hook up to. check the tranny oil, to see if you have anti-freeze in the tranny oil.
head gasket. no doubt, get it into a decent garage asap.
oooo its a headgasket problem.. i had this on my megane and it costed me over 拢700 so i got it repaired and it still happenend and eventually it needed a new engine.. so i had sell the car on ebay for 拢250... what a waste of money it was.. annyways good luck with yours.. but as far as i can think u have the headgasket problem.. DO NO TAKE IT TO BIG WELL KNOW GARAGES take to a oneman garage, it'll be cheap to do.. and then get rid of the car.. don't tell the buyer ! heh he he
blown head gasket, crack in head or block. some dirty rotten scoundrel put oil in your water.

auto. trans? check level. If trans cooler runs through rad. could be internally cracked
You may have a blown head gasket. It is possible to have oilin your water because your oil pressure is alot higher than the water pressure in your motor. If your car isnt overheating and it has an automatic transmission Your radiator could be letting your transmission fluid leak into your water. Trany fluid is usualy red but if it is old it will be almost black which could give you a milky color. Hope this helped
    Might be a cracked block
blown head gasket or cracked block
More than likely the head gasket. Exxxpppeeennnsssiiivvveee.

I'm waiting for engine to cool down to check my oil, what signs are there to suggest I'm low on oil?

I have a ticking noise and car started to shudder in low gears?I'm waiting for engine to cool down to check my oil, what signs are there to suggest I'm low on oil?
pull out your Dipstick and observe the marking theronI'm waiting for engine to cool down to check my oil, what signs are there to suggest I'm low on oil?
Check it while it's still warm, otherwise you'll get a bit of a false reading as the oil changes with temperature........ when cold it thickens, and the mark is lower down, when it warms up it liquifies a bit more, and shows there's more in (and in particular how much there really is in when the car is running).

Pull out dipstick, wipe with a piece of paper towel, stick it back in the hole (all the way in), and there should be some notches on the bottom of the dipstick marking what the level is.
The ticking noise could be the upper engine valve noise which would increase if you were low on oil. You can add a synthetic oil to conventional oil to increase protection of your engine if you forget and let your engine oil run low. It will keep the upper valve train lubricated better.

    http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularma鈥?/a>
You don't have to wait long to check the engine oil. The ticking noise could be low on oil, but chances are the vales would need adjustment. Although, I would go with thicker oil before attempting to put money into it.

Why not simply immerse the computer in oil with a pump and radiator system. There would be no need for component shielding.Oil cooled computer?
you can do that. we did this at my college. it works but oil corrodes plastic over time so you wont get lasting effects. we named the pc oily and overclocked the hell out of it and it still stayed nice and cool. but DO NOT put the power supply into the oil unless you want to die. lol it was so ghetto we submerged it in a plastic hamster cage :).

also you have to keep the oil pc away from all heat sources. keep it FAR away from the monitors. we noticed the oil started to get frothy after it was sitting next to the monitor and the temp went up so we moved it across the desk. now its been running strong for nearly a year.

we didnt use a pump or anything but we did put that little bubbler thing that people put in fish tanks to circulate the oil.Oil cooled computer?
If you buy what is already available you dont need to improvise; check the scythe ninja fanless cpu cooler, and put in an Antec P180 case with higher RPM exhaust fans, that way air is drawn from 2 120 mm fans
because people can be really dumb specially the smart ones :)
Why not, indeed? It's been done (see below).

Why is this not done routinely? I would guess that the main reason is it's messy -- imagine installing a new network card, or changing out a memory DIMM -- and it's heavy, and if you use vegetable oil like these folks did, it can go bad or attract bugs.

There HAVE been commercial liquid-cooled computers. The Cray-2 is probably the most famous. The entire guts of the Cray-2 were immersed in Flourinert(tm), a liquid flourocarbon similar to what's used in air conditioners. It was pumped to cooling columns and for sites that had them, was a popular stop in any tour.
    something like this?

Can a power transformer with oil dielectric be an air-cooled transformer also?

Yes.You have to appropriately reduce the rating and use it at low voltage low current applications.

Do water bubbles move faster though oil when heated or cooled?

If it's a matter of how fast they will move (rather than whether they'll sink or rise) then they should move faster as the temperature rises because the viscosity of the oil will decrease.Do water bubbles move faster though oil when heated or cooled?
Depends which one is heated relative to the other. If the water is sufficiently heated, it will rise. If the oil is sufficiently heated, the water will sink. There will be a particular temperature where both might have equal density (or not, the water might boil before that happens).

Fat free cool whip has hydrogenated oil?

But it's fat free? I though hydrogenated oil was bad for you, but it's supposedly the healhty choice.

Also is there a difference between hydrogenated oil and fully hydrogented oil?Fat free cool whip has hydrogenated oil?
is it hydrogenated or partially? partially technically isn't, so they don't put it on as trans fat.Fat free cool whip has hydrogenated oil?
The FDA allows for traces of fat to be in certain foods and still call them fat-free.

You should pat yourself on the back for reading the ingredients and not just the fat grams.

It's true, there is hydrogenated oil in it. I would avoid it.

Both partially and fully hydrogenated oils are bad, and on that level, they are equal.
yes hydrog is a 100% man made substance. your body doesnt know what to do with it so it just clogs your arteries and veins. on average it shortens your life by 1 year per 20 servings. the only difference between the oil and full oil is that the full oil has nothing else in it the oil does. personally i would just look at labels and dont eat at mcdonalds or bk
Do you mean partially hydrogenated and hydrogenated.

check this site it may help.

Garrett 50 trim .63A/R (water and oil cooled) boost leak?

I just tested for boost leaks, and found one comming out of the Turbine housing. I can't pressurize the system to over 9psi using a big air compressor. The boost is leaking through the bearing housing and hissing out through the turbine wheel. Now what I really want to know is, what might be wrong with this turbo charger, if anything.

And would it be cheaper to try to fix it or replace the whole turbo?Garrett 50 trim .63A/R (water and oil cooled) boost leak?
The seal on the turbine is misaligned or bent. If your mechanically inclined, then it would be cheaper to fix, but if your not, then you may want to buy a new one.

  • Do you have to seal around the cpu when cooling a computer with mineral oil?

I ve been looking at this type of cooling method lately and seems fairly viable but sealing the cpu with silicone to stop the mineral oil getting into the cpu socket seems difficult . Also if I need to do this can anyone show me some sites on how to do this properlyDo you have to seal around the cpu when cooling a computer with mineral oil?
You need something like in the link. You just don't run oil all over your CPU.Instead of water you use oil.Do you have to seal around the cpu when cooling a computer with mineral oil?
I think that's a myth. You'd see effects on the other exposed circuitry as well.

As far as the mineral oil bath concept goes, it's a little silly and a lot messy. Install a radiator instead.

Are oil cooled dirt bikes good?

oil?Are oil cooled dirt bikes good?
most dirt bikes don't require oil coolers. you would probably see a radiator setup before you would see an oil cooler on a dirt bike. The reason why I say this is because the engine sits right behind the front tire where it constantly has cool air rushing over the engine. Now if you were running a serious setup, turbocharger lets say, then yes you would need one and you would also need a radiator to help with cooling. Are oil cooled dirt bikes good?
never heard of an oil cooled dirtbike

    What HP ?

Diesel?I have a dutez air cooled motor that keeps heating up and can not figure out why I have changed oil, air?
Giver her a good cleaning, alot of dust/dirt buildup will restrict air flow around the engine.
Look around the cylinder shrouding for junk or chaff sucked in and blocking the air flow, make sure the shrouding itself is all on and in place. If all is ok, I think you may have a piston problem developing, or you could have a lean injector causing an overheat. If the fan is ok and the blades all there, don't know what else. good luck

Should i paint my cool 50's METAL cabinets with acrylic enamel or something oil based?

i am in the process of stripping old paint and priming the cabinets with oil based....i have conflicting opinions as to what i should finish them off with.....i really like the high high gloss plastic look and feel of acrylic (not to mention less hassle than oil) but then again i want to go with the best paint and durability for the job. These cabinets are 50+ years old and super cool.....answers from anyone experienced or a paint expert please!Should i paint my cool 50's METAL cabinets with acrylic enamel or something oil based?
I'm a Union Painter...I can answer this for ya...You don't have to use oil base paint. It's becoming a thing of the past. Oil base paints tend to yellow in sunlight as well with time. Don't waste all of your hard work and time with oil unless your painting on a canvas or wood.

Sherwin williams has a product called '; All Surface Enamel %26amp; Alkyd '; It has exceptional durability for highly used traffic areas. Have them tint it and pick your sheen.

The material you will need should cost you under $40.00.

I get contractor pricing...so not really 100% sure of your price.Should i paint my cool 50's METAL cabinets with acrylic enamel or something oil based?
They may look at ya like your crazy. lol..most body shops are very busy. I suppose if ya put something cute and sexy on and bashed ya lashes..women can usually get what they want. lol Report Abuse

To be honest with you and if you can, take the cabinets down and take them to an auto painting place. I did this with the metal cabinets in my garage. You can not beat the finish and the shine and you can choose from thousands of colors. They spray them, bake them and if you pay them a little extra would probably wet sand and wheel them. They can even put rust inhibitor on them to keep them looking new for years, not to mention fix any dents or dings. I'm telling you, if the cabinets in my house were metal, I would have had them done too!
