How much oil do you put into and evap cooler?

On each side of the machine.. the rod that goes thru the center holding the rotating fan-type thing.. there is an oil cap. Lift the cap and squirt in 2-4 squirts of oil(on each side) and that should suffice for the summer. How much oil do you put into and evap cooler?
you need about 5 or six drops on the bearings on both sides of the blower cage. and don't forget to oil the moter if it has oilers on both sides of the moter 3 to 4 drops don't over oil the moter.

  • What is an oil cooling line in car?

I have a Mazda Tribute 2003 that was leaking antifreeze and dealership wants to replace this line. Does it attach to radiator? What is an oil cooling line in car?
Your car has an oil to coolant intercooler that is used to cool the engine oil. It routes coolant from the cooling system (which the radiator is part of) and uses it to cool the engine oil.

It sounds like one of the coolant lines (hoses) carrying coolant (also called antifreeze) has sprung a leak and needs to be replaced.

Contrary to another post with 40+ years experience, I actually looked at my technical references here in the shop (Mitchell and AllData). Your vehicle does have lines (hoses) that carry COOLANT to your engine oil cooler.

Good luck! What is an oil cooling line in car?
    HI

Yes it attaches to the radiator if its a cooling line... But what has me concerned is that the line does NOT contain coolant it contains Oil.... why for a coolant leak would they replace a line that does not contain coolant???

Anti-freeze has nothing to do with oil or oil cooling.

Some cars use the radiator area for transmission and oil cooling because the systems are similar.
do you mean hose? not all coolant hoses/lines connect to the radiator.

Can you add engine cooling oil with old cooling oil?

is my compressor badI added 3 cans of 134a to my 98 gran prix a/c system.air was getting cooler then compressor was throwing oil?
if anything is leaking on an a/c system its bad....but 3 cans of freon that's quite a bit...is your system over pressurized now?if its throwing oil from the nose seal...u have a problemI added 3 cans of 134a to my 98 gran prix a/c system.air was getting cooler then compressor was throwing oil?
Too much oil in the compressor can damage it. Too much refrigerant can damage the compressor. If oil is coming out the compressor's body, the compressor is busted. Ouch, those are pricey. If you're lucky it could be a leaking refrigerant hose or hose fitting seal.

Why sould I seal or not seal off the cpu when I build my oil cooled computer?

I have seen alot of oil cooled computers out there and I want to build my own. Some people say to seal around it with silicone.

Some don't even bring up the subject and just dip their computer right in. Has anyone had any experience with this? Why sould I seal or not seal off the cpu when I build my oil cooled computer?
    NICE PROJECT,CONGRATULATIONS!

Sealing it with silicone clears away some unexpected bluescreens. The pins around the CPU when covered in oil cause some sort of electrical discharges.

One additional suggestion is for you to use motor oil,not cooking oil (semi-synthetic)...from my experience, after 2-3 months,a computer cooled with normal organic oil starts to smell like french fries...the semisynthetic or full synthetic oil is much better ...try 5W40,10W40...doesn't really matter that much and full synthentic doesn't start to smell..Why sould I seal or not seal off the cpu when I build my oil cooled computer?
yes the fans will help with cooling by circulating the oil around Report Abuse

Does oil in the cooling system mean a blown head gasket?

I have a 96 Saturn SC and I had the Radiator replaced a few months ago. The car does not smoke and as of yet hasn't overheated.Does oil in the cooling system mean a blown head gasket?
It could very well be a blown head gasket; or a warped head. If the block were cracked you would probably have coolant in the oil.Does oil in the cooling system mean a blown head gasket?
To see if it is a blown gasket start your car with the rad cap off and leave it off. When it is a little warm look for bubbles in the water in the radiator. There will be some small bubbles which is normal but what you are ultamately looking for is biger ones like its almost burping. After you hav echecked that and your still unsure replace the rad cap and wander round to the exhaust and if it is steamy when the car is hot and this is best done at mid day and has water in the exhaust or the fumes are moist then it will be a gasket needing replacement. If your still not quite convinced pull out the plugs and look for signs of rust on and around the tips. This is also a sure fire way of finding out where it is the gasket is blown. It may also use water. If the car is an auto then it will have the tranny lines going into the rad.The rad also acts as a tranny cooler. If there is a leak from inside the oil in the rad will be whitish. But if its engine oil then it will be a caramel or poo colour. If you cant find any signs of the gasket bein blown then it maybe just whatever was in the new rad and wouldnt be to worried
Yes it does. If you keep driving it with oil in the engine it will blow your engine, you might have a head gasket problem, a ton of miles on the car. The head gasket will be the first thing for you to check out. See if the cylinder head has a crack in it or even the engine block. Have the cylinder head magnifluxed to see if it is cracked.
There is no oil available due to a blown head gasket. Oil does not linger in the combustion chamber. If these ';mekaniks'; would think before taking a wag (wild *** guess) there would be more correct answers. Oil in the radiator can only come from the tranny oil cooler located in the lower tank of the radiator. I would go back to whoever fixed your radiator and ask for warranty work. When you have cooling system problems go to a RADIATOR SHOP not an auto shop. And that's just the way it is.
If there is an oil cooler in the radiator it could be leaking. pull the radiator cap off and see if you get bubbles coming out. if there are bubbles it is the head gasket , if no it is the radiator rememberthe engine must be up to full operating temp.
Please understand, I am no mechanic. That said I belive that oil in your cooling system does indicate a blown head gasket.

How can an engine be oil and air cooled? air cooled i understand but oil cooled? ?

buell and bmw have oil/air cooled engines, how does the oil actually cool engine? my friend the motorcycle mechanic always said ';heat kills engines';, thanksHow can an engine be oil and air cooled? air cooled i understand but oil cooled? ?
Every engine is also oil-cooled. Air (or water in a water-cooled engine) takes away the excess heat that travels to the cylinder walls and the outside of the heads. The problem is that lots of heat remains in some parts such as the underside of the pistons. These are often cooled by jets of oil sprayed directly onto them. But even without specific oil jets, lubricating oil is constantly in contact with very hot engine parts so it inevitably absorbs some of their heat which cools the engine parts. This heats the oil which is often cooled by a separate oil cooler.

Some engines, like aircraft piston engines, or early Suzuki GSXR's actually circulate fresh oil around the outside of the cylinders and heads where it acts pretty much like water in a water-cooled motor. These engines carry more oil than average (7qts in the Suzuki's case) and are equipped with oil-coolers that are the size of water radiators. How can an engine be oil and air cooled? air cooled i understand but oil cooled? ?
Depends on the car and engine,

The oil in most cars is used as a lubricant to lessen friction on moving parts. (Friction makes the heat).

Some cars have oil coolers which is similar to a radiator which allows air to cool the oil passing through the tubes.

Engines also hove radiators which water is pumped through (By a water pump) and cooled.

    Boats

Water cooled engines Have manifolds (Attached to exhaust system)which adapt the engine for marine use, water is pumped through the engine and manifolds and out the exhaust system.
An oil cooler is a much smaller strip (like a miniature radiator) attached to the frame. It is not meant to cool the engine but just to reduce the temperature of the oil which is in use by the engine.

The engine is cooled as usual by the fins on the cylinder head.

This layout helps to extend the life of the oil and thereby bring it up to a respectable level (normal interval) which would otherwise not be the case given the specs of the engine and the job that it is intended to perform.
the older Suzuki's such as the Katona and the GSXR's were oil cooled by circulating the oil through an oil cooler externally returning the oil to the engine cooler as others have mentioned, but they also have a pump that squirts the oil upwards on the bottom side of the pistons cooling the main point of friction, the piston and cylinder walls, this in turn makes all operation of the engine operate at a cooler range, and we all know friction is the action that wears parts. this is probably the best type of cooling for any reciprocating engine because it reduces wear and heat far greater then any other technique or engine design.
The main function of oil in all engines is to provide lubrication although it also helps cool the engine. Oil cooling is not enough on its own so all engines are either air or water cooled though air cooling is less common in car engines.

In some high performance cars though, there may be a separate oil cooler to help keep temperatures down.
since oil runs through the engine, if there is something that cools the oil, then the engine will run cooler.

air-cooled engines are what they are. they do not have a radiator and do not use coolant. they get their cooling through convection (when you ride, the wind blows through it and removes heat)

that is why air-cooled bikes will overheat if they sit in traffic for a long time.

turbocharged cars have an oil cooler to cool the oil that runs through the turbocharger
Ideally, the pistons, crank, con-rods, and cams all float on

a film of oil with no metal-to-metal contact.

How is the heat transfered out of those parts?

Even without an oil-cooler radiator, a lot of heat is lost from

the oil pan surface. (Most of them are finned to help with this.)

Any air-cooled engine is really partly oil-cooled.
A cooler separate ( Radiator ) cools the engine oil thus making the engine cooler like my vehicle
The oil gets into places not even water-cooling can such as crank shaft bearings and piston wrist pins, all that's needed now is an oil cooler to run air thru
They have oil coolers.. that act like radiators for your anti-freeze/coolant... Google it..

yes I would have one installed if your towing.Do I need an aux transmission oil cooler installed on my 2007 Chevrolet Suburban?
Any transmission add on would be a benefit I believe...the basic fact is that transmissions create heat just like an engine (from pressure rather than ignition) and heat is the enemy for moving parts, gaskets and seals...so it would be a good preventive measure to install one, even if only to prevent the transmission from operating in it's higher heat range.
It may not be required but would be wise. They aren't too terribly expensive or difficult to install and will help your transmission last longer.

Transmission fluid and water mixed through oil cooler?
Transmission fluid has an emulsifiers to give it some tolerance to water. They do mix in an unusual way.

The transmission cooler on your car can be capped off and an after market unit added up by the radiator.

So I would put on an after market transmission cooler, and have the fluid changed in the transmission (along with the filter). Then drive it for a while. This may get you further down the road for less money.Transmission fluid and water mixed through oil cooler?
    First of all,

You need to find out what exactly happened to the radiator. How

much fluid got into the transmission and how long you drove it

with the coolant in the transmission for. If you trust your mechanic

or transmission shop here, it does sound like the transmission is

shot because of this coolant leak. You obviously must replace that

radiator so there's a start. Your mechanic should be able to give you

much more detail on what happened here.

Good Luck on your decision whatever that might be.
yes the water can damage your trans because water was not made to work on trans, simple mechanic basics

how the water end on your trans? because the radiator was broken and the oil cooler was integrated to the radiator both fluids get mixed

  • Why would oil pump out the oil cooler breather?

Our son is in the Navy, so while he was gone on deployment, we went to bring his 1988 Harley Davidson FXSTC home to fix it up for him. I changed the oil in it for him, but when I start it up it literally pumps the oil right out the oil cooler breather. It's an after market oil cooler that was on it when he got it, so I don't know too much about it. That's the only thing wrong with it as far as I know, but would just like to get it going for him. Thank you for any input. Why would oil pump out the oil cooler breather?
Harleys use a scavenging oil system and when they sit for a while, they can wet sump from oil that leaks past the oil pump check valve and into the crankcase. When you first start it up it will puke oil for a while.

It's also possible that it's over-filled and oil is coming out of the crankcase ventilator (breather.) It sounds like the bike might have an aftermarket engine breather oil collector like this on it: http://img.jpcycles.com/product/431-335_鈥?/a>

If so; drain all the oil out of this unit before starting the bike. (some water may come out too when you drain it.)

Check the oil with the bike upright and level. The oil level should be between the two marks on the stick. If it's over-filled, drain a bit from the drain hose that comes from the oil tank and has a plug at the end of it. Then start it up. If it pukes more than a quart or so shut it off and check that you have the right oil filter.

    Edit: You said; ';I didn't get 1/2 pint out in all. I only put 3 qts in it to begin with, although it requires 4 qts to be full.';

It sounds like the oil sumped from the oil tank into the crankcase and it might puke more than a quart out of the breather before the oil in the crankcase is scavenged back into the oil tank.

Don't expect to get 4 quarts in it.

I have a 96 FXSTC. It won't take more than about 3 quarts. Why would oil pump out the oil cooler breather?
This sounds like a crankcase breather filter from your description. Look at the link to the J%26amp;P oil collector filter in these answers. If it looks like the little filter on the top of that then it's just a crankcase breather filter. When a Harley sits for a good while oil could sump into the crankcase and will literally puke out when the bike is started. That's not an uncommon condition. Also from your oil change description it sounds like you put in too much oil. . By the way there is a oil filter on the front of the engine, did you change that when you changed the oil? Make sure to get one for an EVO engine and not a Twin Cam. When you change the oil only start with two(2) quarts in the oil tank. Crank it up and make sure that you can see oil circulating when you look inside of the oil tank filler cap. With that part complete turn off the engine and add no more than a half a quart and check the level it should be mid-way on the stick. It's better to need to add a little as you go than to have too much oil in the tank . I hope this helps you out. Good Luck.
That's a new one on me. Could be as simple as you over filled it. Or like golden rider said some of the old models did do things like that more I think about it. Between that and the chain oiler that's where the legend of Harley's leaking so much oil came from.
Some of the older Harley's just do that, but if it has high miles on it, it may be time for a ring job.
Check to see if its overfilled, check to see if oil has a hint of gasoline odor to it, if so, needle valve in carb may be stuck open flooding gas into engine.
Sounds like something is missing. The oil cooler doesn't have a breather on it.The oil cooler is part of the closed loop return system back to the tank. The return line does not have a breather on it.

Edit If it looks like a little filter then Scooter is probably correct about the sump filling with oil.It will pump oil out the breather til the crankcase is empty. There might be a piece of crud on the check valve ball seat that is letting the oil fill the crank. As soon as the crankcase is empty is should stop puking oil but if it sits again it will probably happen again as soon as it's started.

Can a transmission oil cooler cool too much?

I have a 1995 Ford Taurus with 182,000 miles and am looking at adding a transmission oil cooler (it is my understanding that cooler oil can mean longer transmission life, and for $50, why not). The car is in northern California where most of the time it is between 50 and 85 degrees F. A couple questions:

    1) Is is possible that the new cooler could cool too much and mess with the proper operation of the transmission?

    2) I drive only on highways about 22,000 miles a year. The way I see it the car is getting decent cooling at high speeds on the highway, so is it even worth it to add the cooler at all?

I have scoured forums and haven't found too much. I'm hoping to get some solid answers here. Thanks in advance for your time. Can a transmission oil cooler cool too much?
you can't cool enough. the operation of the tranny will continually create heat, so the cooler the oil is, the longer lasting the parts will go.

there already is an oil cooler built into the radiator, it's not very potent, but good enough for regular type of driving. you can plumb an external one in, but it'll be very hard and very tight. you might need like an inline style and mount it to the side of the engine bay.Can a transmission oil cooler cool too much?
the cooler the transmission fluid runs, the longer the fluid, and the transmission, will last. heat is what kills automatic transmission, for the most part. the best temperature to run an automatic at seems to be around 140 degrees or less. at that temperature transmission fluid lasts for 100,000 miles. get yourself a trans cooler designed to handle loads up to 26,000lbs and install it on your car. your transmission will thank you. heck i am planning to install an oil cooler when i swap a T5 into my mustang since it also uses ATF. i have never had any problem with an automatic transmission running too cold.
The cooler will be fine - and it will help prevent the transmission from overheating.

An auxiliary transmission cooler is standard on a vehicle with a trailer towing package - and that alone indicates that the possibility of cooling too much isn't really a concern since in many, if not most instances, the vehicle won't be pulling a trailer.
You can not keep your transmission too cool. The cooler the better. Keeping the tranny fluid as cool as possible results in longer life and better power transfer and better throttle response. It could even lead to better gas mileage.
no cannot cool too much as heat is what causes wear. Almost all coolers use ambient temp to cool. best is to connect add on Cooler to return line from radiator to max cooling effect.
unless you are hauling heavy loads or driving a lot in the mountains a cooler won't help you much. Just maintain the transmission well and you will be ok.
I have never heard of a oil cooler cooling to much, ever, so i would have to say no.

DODGE RAM transmission oil cooler does not cool in park???? Is this true?

Ive heard from a few not-so-reliable sources (friends) that the current generation Ram trucks do NOT cool the tranny fluid if the truck is in park. therefore, they say that if i was gonna be leaving it idle in park for any amount of time, i should turn it off, or put it in neutral so that i dont overheat the tranny....this sounds like crap to me. but, i dont know technical stuff about it, so was wondering if anyone knows whether theres truth in this or not??? i was told that Fords and GMs dont have this problem. one person i heard this from is a Dodge fan, and he agreed that he has heard this. is it true?DODGE RAM transmission oil cooler does not cool in park???? Is this true?
Lets see, the pump is connected DIRECTLY to the crankshaft via the flex plate, so HOW could it NOT pump???? Come on the fluid flow may not be directed to the cooler but in my experience with flushing transaxles the fluid DOES flow directly out of the TC, into the cooler circuit for max cooling, and it is a liquid to liquid cooler so even if the vehicle is not moving there will be some cooling effect going on. Even if the cooler is an aux. cooler not part of the radiator ';in tank '; cooler it will be exposed to the atmosphere giving it some cooling effect. I understand all mopars to be mostly the same and to not allow for cooling in park would seem to be foolish, provided all the failures due to heat.DODGE RAM transmission oil cooler does not cool in park???? Is this true?
WOW!! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT SO MANY OF YOU ASE MASTER TECHS COULD BE SO WRONG!!! DODGE TRANSMISSIONS USED IN THE FULL SIZE TRUCKS DO NOT FLOW TO THE COOLER IN PARK. YES THEY PUMP FLUID ALL THE TIME HOWEVER IT COMES FROM THE PUMP TO THE VALVE BODY AND THEM IF IN PARK IT GOES BACK TO THE PAN!!!! PERIOD Report Abuse

if you don't believe that it cools in park try taking the line of the cooler and see how much fluid will come out of it,you,ll loose all of it in a matter of a few minutes, anytime the engine is running the fluid is flowing through the cooler,it doesn't have to be in drive or any gear for it to flow, the pump works all the time, try it if you don't believe it does, but be prepared to clean up a big mess, ever who told you this obviously isn't a mechanic, good luck.
I guess I am not a mechanic either. Mine always had to be in gear for fluid to flow through the cooler. Tried to reduce over fill by disconnecting the cooler line, rather than pulling the pan. No fluid came out until I put it in Drive. Actually it would have pumped it out in neutral.

Regardless, unless you are in the middle of the desert, the transmission will not over heat.

The price of gasoline is the main worry now.
the oil cooler does not cool in park because the pump does not pump in park. it only sends fluid thru the cooler in r n d 1 2 . thank you owner of 95 dodge ram 1500 4x4 237,000 all original motor %26amp; trans.
well yeah the tranny cooler needs air going through it to do its job so YOU NEED TO BE MOVING for it to work - just like a radiator
That's BS, if the engine running fluid fows in a circle. And the cooler is in that circle.

    Trans oil cooler Line?

I have a 1994 mercury grand marquis and when I was removing the radiator the trans oil line was so rusted in place it literally cracked. I need to get a new one but I can seem to find where at. When I look on auto zones website all I find is the fitting and and transmission oil coolers but no line. Anyone know where I can get a line that matches my car? Or where would I get the tubing to make a new one, would it need to be metal or could it be another material and where would I get a fitting to hook it back to the radiator and transmission?Trans oil cooler Line?
The line itself is only available from a Ford dealer.Trans oil cooler Line?
get a section of new line, then ask for a compression type repair coupler.it should have a nut and farrel on bothe ends of a little tube and the nuts go on the pipe, then the farrels, plug the pipe in deep as it goes, then tighten the nut,and dont overtighten it. good as new.
go to auto parts store and they can fit you up with a flex line that can work with trans fluid//cant be any old stuff

yes it is a common fault but it is also a common fault for them too over heat if left too long which doesnt just blow the head gasket but also warps and cracks the cylinder head so since you dont know the history of it it might be best too find another
Wouldn't say it's common but i've done a couple. Still wouldn't trust the dealer. Oil in the coolant isn't a hard thing to spot. When you're in the trade it's one of the few quick checks you can do at auction.

They either checked the car over and missed it in which case what else have they missed. Or (more likely being a dealer) they spotted it but thought we'll not mention it and only fix it if the customer spots it and complains.
Never should their be oil in the Coolant. This ain't worth the hassle, you did the right thing. Plenty more of them out their to buy.
A faulty oil cooler is common on the 1.7 tdi isuzu engine replace quite a lot of them for the same issue of oil in the expansion tank.

You will find when the oil cooler has failed there is no loss in engine power as associated with a failed head gasket.

The 2.0 di ecotec engines also suffer the same problem.

Why would oil pump out the oil cooler breather?

    Edit: You said; ';I didn't get 1/2 pint out in all. I only put 3 qts in it to begin with, although it requires 4 qts to be full.';

It sounds like the oil sumped from the oil tank into the crankcase and it might puke more than a quart out of the breather before the oil in the crankcase is scavenged back into the oil tank.

Don't expect to get 4 quarts in it.

  • Chevorlet 350 oil cooler problem?

when i change my oil, I have to use a long screwdriver in the pivot point on the oil filter wrench just to get the oil filter off (screws the old oil filter up)!!! when i put the new oil filter on i screw it on hand tight and there is always a gap left at the top u have to finish it by snugging it up with an oil filter wrench. so it takes an hour or more to change my oil !!!! what can i do to fix it other than buying a new oil cooler adapter ??? The gap at the top is the thickness of the gasket. By tightening it until there is no gap, your are over tightening it and crushing the gasket. Sounds like you should pay to have this job done for you. Chevorlet 350 oil cooler problem?
there should be a gap where you can't see the o-ring that sits in there right hand tight should be it, if you do it hand tight does oil come out

If I rigged up a water cooled cooler with a heat exchanger and fan to chill the water would that remove heat better? Or maybe even a cooler with heatpipes to remove the heat? The one with heat pipes has never overheated and the normal one over heats several times a week.Water cooled transmission oil cooler?
I'd save the hassle of complicating the system you are thinking about and purchase one of many additional external transmission fluid coolers.

They are easy to install and increase the amount of fluid used with the transmission by about 20%. This extra fluid and increased cooling capacity works for 90% of the vehicle out there.

It's what I would do unless you have some set up that required extra extra cooling.Water cooled transmission oil cooler?
Water or oil, or any liquid for that matter will have better heat exchange then air and therefore keep the transmission cooler, so therefore it would be better if you installed a liquid cooler.

JB Weld on transmission oil cooler line(?)?

i was changing out the starter on my 4runner, long story short, cable from the battery arced out on transmission oil cooler line(?)(line from transmission to radiator) and made a hole in it. will jb weld work on it? how much pressure is on that line?(out of the radiator it connects to a hose with a clamp, off transmission it has a fitting)JB Weld on transmission oil cooler line(?)?
John is on the right track, but a split hose will leak.

Take a tubing cutter, and cut the tube. Put a piece of hose between the cut ends and secure with hose clamps. You may want to use a longer piece of hose, and double clamp it, but that will fix your problem.JB Weld on transmission oil cooler line(?)?
    JB Weld won't hold there.

Clean it off really well about 6'; both ways from the hole.

Get a tubing cutter and cut it in two at the hole.

[Do not use a saw or grinder, those will get grit or chips in the lines.]

Lube the outside with some tranny fluid.

Slip a 2-3'; piece of rubber transmission hose [with an ID the same as the OD of the line - and I mean transmission hose, not fuel hose. Hydraulic hose would work also, it's really the same thing.] over the lines such that you have at least 1'; on both sides of the cut.

Then use a small hose clamp on each side of the cut.
Too much pressure for JB weld. Depending on the size of the hole, you could empty out your transmission in a hurry if (when) it ruptured. You might be able to have the hole brazed shut, but far better to replace the line.

You want a permanent fix, not a temporary fix that will fail when you least expect it.
No way would I trust a JB Weld patch on that. I would use tube cutters to cut out a short section containing the hole and then couple the ends together with a piece of reinforced hydraulic hose and hose clamps.
Get a piece of the same hose. Cut it longways on one side so that it looks like a C in cross-section. put it over the hole and secure it with a hose clamp, also right over the hole.

    Dirtbike oil cooler?

hello i am wondering if anyone knows if i could make an oil cooler for my 1995 xr80r because i have seen them on other years but don't know how it would work so if anyone knows how to make an oil cooler for my bike because it gets pretty hot due to me being 180 pounds on a small bike,it would be truly appreciated.Dirtbike oil cooler?
I don't know of anyone currently making an oil cooler for the XR80. Takegawa did make one for the XR100 which should work for the 80, but I haven't seen it listed for awhile.

Now most of the coolers sold are for the horizontal engines (CRF 50/70 KLX110, etc). These work off the head, and would be a VERY bad idea on your 80. To make a cooler work properly on the CRF/XR 80 and 100 you'll need to tap into the engine near the oil pump, or through the cylinder into the passage going to the head.

A cooler is usually not necessary - if you change the oil frequently and run a good quality motorcycle oil (not automotive oil) - then engine heat is normal and won't hurt the bike.

The only time I recommend an aftermarket oil cooler is if the bike loses power when it's hot, and gets harder to shift. If the bike isn't doing this, then a cooler won't really do much.

    _____

Garfield - it's an air-cooled single - no radiator, and no external oil lines.Dirtbike oil cooler?
If it has an external oil line you could remove the line and add the cooler there. Just set up the radiator so the oil stays in it when the engine is off. Otherwise if it drains back it will take to long to fill up before the oil pumps to the engine.

Would temperature data determine if oil cools the earth?

Past temperature data could resolve the question- does oil cool the earth? Oil could be insulating earths' surface from earths core heat. Temperature from regions where oil is removed should be rising quicker than areas where oil has not been removed. As oil is removed a correlating rise in temperature should exists in these regions.Would temperature data determine if oil cools the earth?
It would not make much of difference because there are areas of the crust that is much more dense. Oil is part of the Earth's surface as another layer. Then mantel is Kilometers deep of the surface. There will always be heat flux from the mantel and the core. Volcanoes and divergence of the oceanic crust also influence heat flux.

Earth is Getting warmer because of the radiation from the sun getting to the surface and being trapped in by CO2 and other greenhouse like gases.

There's really only one concern with oil cooling: the smell. You can drip dry components once you pull them out, but can you tolerate your PC smelling like a deep fryer? Some people say it's pleasant.

Outside of that, there isn't really anything to say. Oil cooling is just one method of keeping your PC cool and has similar issues to water cooling - watching for leaks, checking levels, etc. etc. Other than that, it's really based on what you want to do with the PC.Any advise when building an oil cooled computer?
If your going to Oil cool it your going to want to used the best hardware available, because once you put it in oil you wont want to upgrade it cuz everything will be covered in Oil. Also i wouldn't recommend doing oil (very expensive and messy), stick with Air cooling, even the brand new Core I7 stays nice and cool with a good heat sink setup.

    76 mini oil cooler??

i have a 76 mini clubman with 998 engine and was wondering if installing an oil cooler was worth it. they are not exactly expensive or hard to install just wondering if there would be many benefits cheers76 mini oil cooler??
Believe it or not engine oil are design to work at specific temp of 212 F (100 C). It is NOT a good thing for the oil to be too cool all the time. The viscosity becomes slightly thinner at operating temp allowing the oil to get into smaller joints, etc.

The oil coolers are only recommended if your engine temp often rise above normal.

    ===

If you are worried about your oil, just go with Synthetic. Slightly over kill for street engine (non-turbo).

    Good Luck...76 mini oil cooler??
Not really necessary as the oil pan is the trans case which is finned and heavy alloy

What is the difference between an ordinary bike engine and oil cooled Pulsar 200 engine?

Aren't all engines oil cooled. What is the advantage??What is the difference between an ordinary bike engine and oil cooled Pulsar 200 engine?
Most bike engines are air cooled or water cooled, Air cooled is as it says cooled by the air. Water cooled has coolant being pumped round the engine, the coolant is then pumped into the radiator on the front and is cooled. In oil cooled bikes such as the Bandit 600, the engine oil is pumped through a radiator at the front of the bike to help cool it. The avangtage is that the engine runs at a lower temp. What is the difference between an ordinary bike engine and oil cooled Pulsar 200 engine?
Firstly please understand the function of oil in the engine. It is meant to lubricate the cylinder walls and other parts in the engine. It has to work very hard and has a limited life span after which it has to be replaced. When the oil becomes bad, it not only changes colour, it also looses its viscosity (thickness). One of the main reasons why oil becomes bad is HEAT. In most normal vehicles, (commuter vehicles) the engine oil works within a certain temp.range and is properly cooled. However when the vehicle has sporty intentions / pretentions, the owners love to flog them and test their various speed limitations. Under these circumstances, the oil life would be severely reduced because of the excess heat generation due to racing / high r.p.m. So in order to have a reasonable life / change interval for the oil (so that you don't have to run to the service station every now and then or risk ruining your engine; the manufacturers' have thoughtfully provided for an oil cooler. This cooler is located in the wind stream where the excess heat is removed and the cooled oil is sent back to do its job. So the engine works consistently (despite the demands) and the oil too has a normal life span.
You're right, all 4 stroke engines are oil cooled to a certain extent. Many use a spray of oil from the crankshaft onto the bottom of the pistons to cool them. On the average, oil removes (through heat) 5% of the energy contained in a gallon of gas or diesel.

From there, the other people are right concerning methods of additional cooling for the engine. And guys, don't forget oil coolers! That's what they do, COOL the OIL!
i dont know i hv car.
The difference is in the cooling system. In oilcooled engine oil is circulated through the cylinder to keep the engine cool as in most of the Four wheelers, whereas in ordinary bike the the cooling of engine is done by air( Just see fins over the cylinder which helps distribute the heat to air)
yeah all engines are same but there the cooling agent differs

    like air, water, oil ......
ordinary bike engine is a two stroke air-cooled onewhereas oilcooled engine as the name imples is cooled by coils to reduce heat in the system thus enhance efficiency

    Oil cooler kit?

i have a 96 accord ex, and i have a sandwich adapter with oil temp and pressure senders already hooked in.how would i hook the oil cooler up, it has four ports, would i use of the extra ports and put everything i need to make it run to the cooler and from there do i drill a hole into the oil pan so i can pour back inside.ive seen pictures were it goes out one port threw the lines threw the oil cooler and back into the other port into the adapter, wouldnt that just make a big circle, and if i get it hooked up do i have to put more oil in the engine.Oil cooler kit?

    Rallye 1.3 oil cooler?

How importat is tha oil cooler for the rallye's? Do they help the engine to drop more temperature, and if they help, how many degrees (in celsious) do they drop?Rallye 1.3 oil cooler?
Yes they do help keep the engine cool but I couldnt tell you by how much especially in Celcuis I deal with Farenhiet. If the cooler is run thru the radiator like it would be from the factory it will be the same as the coolant temp. An external cooler will still cool the oil but not as well as the cooler run thru the rad. For optimal cooling run an eternal cooler inline after the rad cooler.

  • Transmission oil cooler line?

Im getting a hose at the auto place to replace my broken trans oil cooler line but I dont know the size to get. They said I need to find out if its 5/16'; or 3/8'; how do I find out the size?Transmission oil cooler line?
Just bring the hose you are replacing with you.Transmission oil cooler line?
You could phone a Dealer perts dept and ask what size are the cooler lines on my paticular vehicle.

Or trans repair shop would work also.

Or measure them with a micrometer
Buy a length of both sizes. I'd get ';fuel injection hose'; because it's much tougher and designed to last longer. The best clamps are fuel injection hose clamps (rather than standard worm drive clamps).

Would it be more oil efficient to fill a bath halfway with very hot water then the rest with cooler water?

so that it balences out and the hot water isnt running the whole timeWould it be more oil efficient to fill a bath halfway with very hot water then the rest with cooler water?
I'm not quite sure what the other option is. Does ';all the time'; mean for the duration of the bath, or just until the bath is full? Would you be running the hot ';part throttle';? Or in periodic installments to reheat the bath? Slow long-duration or frequent running suggests you'll have more heat losses in pipes but you might enjoy it longer. If you can give that up you might consider switching to showers; the water's just the temp you want it at and you only use 3-6 gal of hot instead of 20.

But if bathe you must, as one answerer said, do the hot water last so it isn't sitting there cooling while you run the cold. (Not overthinking at all.)

If you have a tankless system there's a scenario where filling up with ';hot'; is more fuel efficient. Suppose you start with a cold boiler, and as soon as you've run the water you want you turn off the burner. (You are trying to economize, right?) Then compare two scenarios.

    1. You let the boiler heat up to bath temp, say about 110 F, and run hot-only until the tub is full, never letting the boiler temp go above 110 F.

    2. You wait until the boiler has heated to its set point, say 150 F, and run a smaller amount of hotter water with cold to get the same volume and temp.

Both scenarios take the same amount of heat from the boiler, but:

More heat remains in the boiler, wasted, in scenario 2. Also, the heat transfer from flame to boiler is more efficient when the boiler is colder as in scenario 1. So the all-';hot'; fill is more efficient than the hot + cold fill.Would it be more oil efficient to fill a bath halfway with very hot water then the rest with cooler water?
Interesting thought, but remember that while that hot water is running you can also have the cold running which = the same thing. When the water leaves the hot water tank it is 100% hot, the cold is added after. So you can mix the hot and cold at the valve or after it is in the tub, same result
I am not into science but common sense tells me that when you put the hot water in first, it will be cooling. Then you run cold. It seems more energy effiecient to run cold first, then hot. Or am I over thinking?
I think what counts in the end is the final overall Temperature.

How the automatic transmission radiator work? What happen if wrong connection for oil cooling?

If it is a part of the engine radiator, then it cools the transmission fluid with the circulation of the engine coolant. If it is a remote radiator then it may either have cooling fins (for cooling by air) or be cooled by water if she has a jacket around it. You cannot connect the hoses wrongly since they are sized and will not reach the other way round. How the automatic transmission radiator work? What happen if wrong connection for oil cooling?

  • Changing a beetle 1302LS oil Cooler

Hi, im pretty new to this and i have a 1971 1302LS Cabriolet LHD, im inherited it from my great uncle and im only 18, i drive it really carefully but as i have not had a chance yet to earn good money its really me and a haynes manual when it comes to it.

Anyway oil is/was leaking really badly from behind the fan cover and underneath the connection with the generator. so ive removed the air filter and carb easily enough with the manuals help. It then says to remove the generator harness and the 4 bolts that connect it to the fan cover. Did this and tried to remove but the manifold pipes prevent me from actually pulling it out. I may be being really stupid here but it says in the haynes manual it should just come out. It moves as if to come out but the manifold gets in the way. If anyone could help me out with this i would be very grateful. Thanks

SimonChanging a beetle 1302LS oil Cooler
The Haynes Manual will be for a different engine.

The Manifold you mean is the Inlet Manifold is it not? If it is then it is held in by 2 x 13mm bolts, they will be easily accessible since you have removed the generator. I`ve not done this for a long time, so please don`t take it as being deadly accurate as its from memory.

However, it would have been easier just to take the engine out completely in the first place. That is a 5 minute job.

thanksPower steering hose for transmission oil cooler hose?
fuel hose will be damaged by atf fluid causing rupture, trans hose is high pressure and atf fluid resistance, the return line from power steering may be atf resistant but may not hold the pressure of the transmission, its a return line and the return has no pressure thats why its not made like the power steering pressure line, safest thing to do is go to auto parts store and get transmission rated hose there is a difference!!!Power steering hose for transmission oil cooler hose?
No, it won't take the pressure.
go for it.if you had to go to a parts store and get a piece of hose, all they are gonna do is sell you a piece that's universal, can be used for either.
you can use that or you could use what i used on mine. i put a piece of 3/8 gas hose and 2 small hose clamps. matt don,t know everything. i had a piece of gas hose on mine now for 5 yrs and it,s still holding.
    Yep!
these are low pressure hoses, any good quality rubber hose

    will do.

Need Help with oil cooler adapter!!!!?

I have a 1995 S-10 blazer 4X4. It had a leak from the oil cooler adapter, so a bought a gasket set. The set came with a O-ring and gasket. After i replaced the gasket and O-ring and started the car for 15 min it started pouring oil out of the oil cooler adapter. So, what am i missing? or is there supposed to be another gasket on the adapter? Some one please help!!!!Need Help with oil cooler adapter!!!!?
If you put everything back together like you took it apart AND it's leaking from the connection fitting, then I see two possibilities: you crushed the gasket or the o-ring when reinstalling the line (take it back apart and look at it), or you damaged the line or the cooler when you took it apart or when you were putting it back together (bent or broke the lines or cooler).

Oh, well I guess there's a third possibility: Did you match the new gasket and o-ring to the old one to make sure they were the right ones? And is it the connection fittings that are leaking and not the actual cooler or line?

Why do all suvs has a oil cooler ?

i'm confused is it a engine oil cooler or a transmission cooler and also do you shortened the life of your transmission when you go off roadingWhy do all suvs has a oil cooler ?
Because they are usually hauling or pulling heavy things. Even their OWN weight is more than cars or small pickups, so a trans cooler is a good thing to have.

You can damage your trans while off road if you get stuck and over work the transmission while trying to get loose, or while trying to pull someone ELSE loose, or while pulling a heavily loaded trailer in overdrive.

My Suburban had both engine AND trans coolers. Why do all suvs has a oil cooler ?
now all suv's have TRANSMISSION COOLERS...i think that's what your talking about, is it?

anyways, most big suv's and pick ups have transmission coolers because when towing large payloads, it puts more stress on the transmission. so it heats up more, if it heats up too much, it can damage it. so a transmission cooler is put in place.

there is also such thing as an engine oil cooler. lots of engines in all types of cars have that.

You don't want to spend more than 100 ($ ?).

That says to me you are not very serious.

Perhaps you should consider air cooling?

Oil cooling is messy, very, very messy. You will NEVER get the oil out of the components, never ever.

As for oil; use anything. It does not matter; any oil can take the temperatures that electronics generate.

Oil cooling is expensive and impractical you should stick to water cooling. If you really want to do it you need a non conductive synthetic oil which will not damage any of the components. You can use cooking oil if you want a really cheap option but don't expect the oil or the PC to last for long.
I built my entire computer with the exception of my hard drive from tigerdirect. some have had issues, but i did not have one single malfunction with any of the products and i liked their prices the best! I don't know a thing about ';oil cooling';. I installed a heatsink.

Is it hard to put an oil cooler on a ct 70 . how is it done?

    Not hard at all.

Complete Kits start around $70 and include everything you need.

    *Adapter

    *Radiator

    *Hose,Fittings,Clamps

    *Miscellaneous hardware to mount radiator

    ......................................鈥?br>

    Here's a typical kit,,,

    http://dratv.com/oilcoolerassy.html

There's also some useful general info,,,that whole site is actually.

    ......................................鈥?br>

Here's a parts diagram ';blow up'; of the engine.

    http://images.powersportsnetwork.com/fic鈥?/a>

    ......................................鈥?br>

    To Install the Oil Cooler:

You Replace the original R/H Cyl Head Cover with the Kit's Adaptor Cover.

Hook-up the Hoses to the radiator,,

    Mount the Radiator ,,,

    and that's it%26gt;all done.

BE CERTAIN that you use a New Gasket and the Gasket Surface is CLEAN and free of all the old gskt material.

A thin coating of grease on the new gasket is good to help seal it---';gasket goo'; is a freakin mess %26amp; not necessary.

Do Not over tighten the bolts.

    They break EASY.

    ....................................

    Procedure:

    Reffering to the parts diagram above;

    *Remove 2 Bolts,,Item #20

*Remove long center bolt ,Item #19

--it goes all the way thru head and screws into Item #3,,the round cover on opposite side of head

#3 Cover shouldnt fall off,,but it MIGHT,,,no big deal.

Just put it back in place.

Theres a ';certain way'; it goes to keep it from turning---it's obvious when ya look at it.

They ';never'; fall off anyway,,,so no worries

*after removing those 3 bolts,,,pry the Cover #2 off the head

*Scrape/Clean the old gasket off the head

*Reverse the above procedure using the Cooler Kit's Adapter to replace Item#2

*Connect Hoses to Adapter and to Radiator,,,make sure hose clamps are Tight

*Start engine and check for leaks.

    Occasionally check the hose clamps,thereafter.

*Check Engine Oil Level,,,the radiator %26amp; hose volume will have dropped the engine's oil level a bit.

Best thing you can do for the motor is to use Mobil 1 oil in it.

Walmart has 15w-50 for ';cheap';,,,it's excellent and almost as good as their 20w-50 V-Twin motorcycle oil.

    http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorO鈥?/a>

    ...........................

    Another thing,,,

If You ever happen to smash the cooler ,rip it off the bike,,whatever,,,

Oil will be pumped Out under pressure.

A temporary ';Patch'; is to simply Loop either one of the hoses between the Adapter fittings.

Out of 1 Fitting and Into the OtherIs it hard to put an oil cooler on a ct 70 . how is it done?
It is not difficult, but why would you want to put something that is gonna cost about what that bike is worth on it? Before putting on be aware that generally oil coolers are generally used on streetable machines that are not running in dirt all day. If it were me I would make sure to clean the cooling fins on the engine from caked mud and keep them clean.

If you really want to put one on, find a suitable location on the frame to mount the cooler, preferably up front, but if memory serves these do not have a down tube up front so behind the engine will have to do. Next take off the outter oil supply line and install the cooler between it and the engine. Rebolt and tighten everything up and you are done.

Things you may need to do this-zip ties for mounting the cooler secure to the frame, banjo bolts with copper washers for both sides to fit the bike and the cooler, various wrenches. Is it hard to put an oil cooler on a ct 70 . how is it done?
It would be hard and impractical as it has no external oil lines and would require machining or re-engineering of the motor to make the connections. Even in the harshes environment the 70 should not require such.

Will a 06 dyna oil cooler fit my 01 dyna?

Dude, call you locall HD shop %26amp; talk to a parts guy. But I don't think so, mounting may have changed

How often am i supossed to put cooler, water and oil to my car????????

how often am i supposed to put cooler, water and oil to my car??How often am i supossed to put cooler, water and oil to my car????????
Most cars today have coolant recovery plastic bottles on the right front fender of the car. When the motor is stone cold add mixture of 50/50 distilled water and the appropriate antifreeze in this bottle to the cold fill line. Check the oil and coolant weekly. Drag out your owners handbook to fully understand how to read the crankcase oil dip stick. Be careful not to over fill. The difference between the low and full mark on the metal stick is one quart. Add oil accordingly. How often am i supossed to put cooler, water and oil to my car????????
Coolant/ water: I would advise you to leave it no longer than 2 years between changes for this fluid. Even more frequently won't be a bad thing. Don't overlook changing the thermostat at the same time.

Oil: Is heavily dependent on the type of oil already in your engine and the way you drive the car. If you drive at low speeds in city traffic or use cheaper mineral oil then I wouldn't go more than 5000 miles between changes. If you drive on highways at high speed alot or use synthetic oil then might stretch to 7000 to 10000 miles maximum. If you drive for long periods and often at speeds exceeding 110MPH then I would recommend short interval i.e. 5000 miles max.

With both of these fluids I assumed you were asking about changing the fluids but in case you were asking about topping up then in normal circumstances coolant and water never need topping up unless there is a leak. Oil shouldn't need topping up BUT it is acceptable to see some oil burned in normal operation but never enough to worthy an urgent top up within a few thousand miles.

It is important to check the oil level every week or so though because engines can burn oil and the level will fall.
oil should be change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on oil,oil filter and driving conditions.complete coolant flush should be done every 25,000 miles
Whenever the car requires it after checking it Check once a week
    Read the owner's manual
I change my oil and oil filter at every 3,000 miles or every 3 months which ever one comes first. I have never had to put cooler water in to my vehicle.

Check all your fluids at every oil change to make sure you are not low..... like your antifreeze, windshield fluid, etc...
You should check the oil and coolant levels weekly, don't add until the levels are below the minimum marks
